Great Story, but....

The story was awesome, short and sweet but my issue is with the narration. The Haitian accent. I am almost positive that Tom Weiner has never even spoken to a Haitian person because the accent so so far off it's actually just offensive. This is as bad as people who assume that all Caribbean accents sound like Jamaican accents. It's like an over exaggeration of what Native Americans supposedly sound like mixed with a bad Irish accent. It was hard for me to focus on the story.

Short

Too short to rate purchase with a credit, but quality work by Jon Mayberry as usual.

well that was strange...

I'm really not sure what I just listened to. It wasn't written badly, I just don't know what the point was. There was a nice build up of the two main characters for only a 30 minute book, and then meeting a 3rd character didn't seem strange or forced. There was talk of drugs and a rivalry and someone died.

Then garden gnomes... just really strange.

if it is free it could be worth it, but just strange so I'm not sure I would pay money for it.

Cooked

The narrator has a wonderful voice. this story feels so unfinished and very hard to rate.

Drugs and Vodun

An accurate and disturbing, frightening depiction of drug addiction, centering of Methamphetamine addiction. A subject so cringeworthy it's hard to focus on the story. Hard to listen to. The author is known for exciting storytelling, this outing is too close to reality to allow the suspension of reality and therefore too awful to allow enjoyment. The narration would have better served with multiple narrators to handle the switches from American methead to Haitian Voodu priest. This story just isn't equal to the author's other works. Sorry Jonathan.
