Critic reviews

"Not only a heartfelt expression of the author's love of horses, this fine novel also offers a detailed study of life among those Blakely considers to have been the greatest horsemen of all time....Although it is fiction, Comanche Dawn should be required reading for anyone wishing to know about life among the early Plains Indians." Spectacular!

If you could sum up Comanche Dawn in three words, what would they be?

Great story, beautifully read

Any additional comments?

Meticulously researched, beautifully created. I loved this book, in the same vein as "ride the wind" - what I loved the most about this book is that th story is about the rise of a nation, not the fall. Too many stories about First Nations People focus on the fall / loss to immigrating colonies, rather than the power, drama, glory and sorrow of the people themselves.

Great insight

Great insight into the mind and hearts of certain native American people and of a great Comanche warrior. I am binge reading Mike Blakely and enjoying every book immensely. He knows his stuff and is excellent at articulating his knowledge portraying believable and many faceted characters.

Great

Very entertaining combining the history, spirituality, visions, and truth about the greatest light cavalry the world has ever seen, the Comanche horseman.

Authentically historical in story and setting as they rode right through my area and traveled trails I have been on. I will watch for more from this author.

Tremendous job of "acting" from the narrator. This book is well worth downloading if you like Horses, the historical west and being well entertained.

very early american tale

this is a grand story if you like stories about american history and native americans (which i do)!

on the day of horse back's birth, the first horse seen by the tribe appears. this is an omen of how he will become involved with horses as he ages. his is the story of the horse were introduced to the indians and how the indians of new mexico become one with their animals. it is the story of how indians learned the the 'metal men' and the relationships between the 2 groups.

not only is this a well written, well researched, the narrator is excellent as well!

a stunningly beautiful book about the Comanche

I geartly enjoyed this novel about the beginning of the Comanche Nation. Told from the point of view of Horseback, a great warrior and chief it gives a refreshing and exciting look into the history and culture of these great people.

Fabulous!

But, you need to understand what the book is about. Yes, it does talk about the Comanche history among other Native American tribes, the Spanish and early American settlers, but its focus is not a simple historical recitation of facts so revered by many Caucasian readers. This book is much more as it addresses the historical aspects of the story as the background information that it is, but focuses on the ways and thinking of the Native American people, likely, at that time. One reviewer harshly criticized this bold attempt to resurrect a way of life, that has been all but suffocated through time, but only revealed their own narrow capacity to appreciate cultures with greater depth. This book provided an exhaustive journey through the life of a warrior, his people and their beliefs as tested by the environment and communities around them at that time. If the narrator could have shined any brighter in his narration it would have been in his rendition of the battle cry, or the warrior cry for victory or joy. He should have just let it rip instead of trying to imbue it with a caucasian "sensibility" which of course eviscerated the sound and power of the cry. Excellent book. Enjoyed every minute of it.
