Engrossing

I loved this book. The narration was excellent, one of the best I've heard. He brought every character to life and set the pace early on. The story was touching, powerful, mildly suspenseful, and I felt myself pulled into the vortex of these characters. I highly recommend it.

Semi-predictable but Engaging

If one likes other Hiebert novels, one will like this one. Although, for myself, it is easy to figure out the culprit before the reveal. Nevertheless, it still is engaging.

Wonderful Book

The writer took me into the story. I felt like I was part of the story. helping to solve the mystery.

Inconsistent but entertaining

There are story errors - the first most glaring example is when Ethan says his mom never shot anyone.

As a stand alone book it is a good story.

Seems like the second book was rewritten to follow the first. And ... mistakes were made.

I am excited for the next book!

I laughed out loud through both books I have read so far. As a reader of mixed race I didn’t mind the references to racism. I guess I could relate a lot to the kid. Raised by the white side of the family I often said things that were offensive without trying to be. It is very difficult to know what to say and what not to. I still have some trouble in that area at times. I like the honesty of Abe and his friend Dewey. The books have great plots but even more entertaining is the observations of the characters. Love it. Wish there were more available.

Alabama book 2

Nice series so far, I like the family and mystery theme woven together. Although at times I feel the author trying to hard to try prove his thoughts about racism! As a black American reading this, it becomes frustrating because it takes away from the reality, and some statements actually do sound a little offensive. Otherwise it's a very good series that anyone who loves reading a good mystery fiction story can appreciate. looking forward to the next 2 books in the series.
