Publisher's summary

In the year 1912, 19-year-old Christy Huddleston leaves home to teach school in the Smoky Mountains – and comes to know and love the resilient people of the region, with their fierce pride, their dark superstitions, their terrible poverty, and their yearning for beauty and truth. But her faith will be severely challenged by trial and tragedy, by the needs and unique strengths of two remarkable young men, and by a heart torn between true love and unwavering devotion. And don't miss another heart-soaring best seller from Catherine Marshall: Julie.

Critic reviews

"First released in 1967, Christy is based on the life of author Catherine Marshall's mother and was the inspiration for the recent television series of the same name. Beautifully told, this is a charming, timeless tale of love and faith that will appeal to romance readers of all ages." (Amazon.com review)

Inspiring and Cozy

I have read this book so many times that my first copy is worn out. Hearing it read aloud, with Kellie Martin’s voice, is one of my favorite experiences that I come back to time and again. The lessons learned in Christy’s first year teaching and the tenderness of the story itself inspire me to better serve my own students and become a better Christian. And on top of all that, the story is sweet and compelling, too! Highly, HIGHLY recommend!

My Favorite Book!

This book is my favorite childhood read. It's the only book I've read multiple times throughout my life. I love this story & everything about it. The TV show came after I read it & I fell in love with it all over again. Kelly Martin, in my opinion, played Christy perfectly. I understand why they wanted her to narrate it, but I was not a fan. I was highly dissatisfied with her inability to do a true rendition of an Appalachian accent. It was awful! Other than that, it's a wonderful book!

Extraordinary

This is one of the most heart rendering and well written books I have heard in a long time. Although I’ve heard of the book for many years but had never actually read it or listen to it. I highly recommend it. The audio version is wonderful.

Christy

This is a wonderful story - based on Catherine Marshall's mothers life - you feel you are there in those mountains living life alongside Christy. I read the book many years ago and this audio of the story was excellent. Highly recommend it.

A great book made even better!

I have read Christy over a dozen times, and it remains one of my top ten all-time favorites. It is a beautiful a and inspirational story of a young girl's growing up and growing love for God, for others, and for one special man.
Many reviews have been written giving a synopsis of this book, so my goal is to thank Kellie Martin for her flawless narration of this book. She brought to life the lyrical, descriptive prose that so often sounds like the most beautiful music / poetry ever written.
I have never enjoyed "spending" a credit more than when I purchased this book. I know that I will be listening to it many more times!

Christy

This was a compelling and inspirational book. The author was convincing in making one believe that there are individuals that are courageous and determined enough to follow through with their convictions.

The Best Book

This is one of my favorite books ever. I've read it probably six times since I was fifteen. Since I don't reread books often, that is huge.
Kellie Martin did an amazing job reading this book. That shouldn't be surprising since she captured Christy so well on screen.
This is one of those stories that I see new things of every time I read it. I look forward to re-listening to this book in the future.

Wonderful & Fascinating Story

I remember my mom telling me about a television series that was coming out in the 90s that she though I would enjoy. It was Christy and the main character was played by Kellie Martin. I absolutely loved the show and seeing as how it's very difficult to find the tv series I bought the audio book. It is long, but I love the story and the preface that explained how the book came to be.

Compassion at its finest

On the surface, you are listening to a story about someone's life but underneath you will ponder the posing questions and circumstances for your own personal life. While this story, based on true facts, is a easy listen; the situations are troublesome and difficult to hear. The human compassion level in this book is amazing. I loved the true American grit and Grace shown in this story.
