Chasing Rainbows

Things aren’t looking so good for Bernadette Murphy. With the breakup of her marriage, the sudden death of her father, and the announcement of her best friend’s pregnancy, Bernadette finds herself careening toward rock bottom. So why stop short? She quits her job, gets herself banned - for life - from the mall, and goes on a late-night infomercial spending spree. To top it all off, her dog gets kicked out of obedience school - again. Just when she thinks there’s nothing left for the universe to throw at her, she discovers the one thing she needs the most: a reminder of her father’s love.

In the book of cryptograms he left behind, Bernie’s father helps guide her through the pain that’s consuming her. With each solved puzzle, her father’s encoded lessons give Bernie the courage to face life head-on. And as her father always said, "In life, you either choose to sing a rainbow, or you don’t."

For Bernie, the singing is about to begin.

    "Overall Depressing"
Would you try another book from Kathleen Long and/or Christina Traister?

Probably. I bought this one because I like Changing Lanes

Would you ever listen to anything by Kathleen Long again?

Yes, but I would be more careful about the subject matter. This book was depressing. Heroine dealing with death of father, and end of her marriage as a result of the death of their child

    Which scene was your favorite?

    None

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Chasing Rainbows?

Probably 1/2 of the book. While I appreciate that moving forward is something we all have to do after the death of a parent and or child. The heroine just had too many issues to face. It dragged the book down.

    "FORGIVEING TO MOVE FORWARD!"

Loved the narrative of the story painting life’s emotional ups’ and downs’, with lots of color as Bernadette begins to understand what she is really made of. The story holds hope around every corner even through life’s most difficulty trials that she is traveling through. How the most unexpected characters around her become a life line that helps her find a new normal in her life around all the changes that are happing around her. Love the behaviorally challenged dog (Poindexter) just the right touch to soften any heat to move you along in the story. The narrative takes you through grief and heartbreaks that challenges her to see the reality of her life and how she will begin to live it again. In the end the human spirit triumphs through all the of life’s obstacles and with new tools to keep moving forward. Great Read! Fran
