    "Not a page-turner"

I am a huge fan of Jodi Piccoult, but I agree with a couple of the other reviewers that this was way too reminiscent of The Green Mile. Jodi is usually wonderful in constructing well-rounded characters and thought-provoking moral dilemmas, and though the characters were fully formed and likeable (especially Maggie), I failed to feel involved with the central moral issues. For me, there was a great deal too much religious philosophy and biblical discussion, which seemed to slow the whole drama down to a snail's pace. However, the story was well read by a good cast of characters, so it was modestly entertaining.

    "waste of time"

I'm a Picoult fan but this one doesn't live up to her reputation. Plastic characters and no real drama. The ending is so expected I figured it out immediately.

    "Green Mile Knock Off"

Green Mile knock off and not nearly as good. Attempts to rebuke the death penalty, has to be one of a "thousand" attempts. I am against the death penalty but this contrived religous and philsophical "argument" does nothing except wish I had chosen a different book. I want my credit back.

"Change of heart- or Change your mind??"

Piccoult is a skilled writer, but this story often seems more about expounding her view of religion and a spiritual agenda than it is about telling a story. Some of the characters are similar to another book of hers (My SIster's Keeper), but in this book Piccoult seems determined to expound her view of faith and her criticisms of religions(Christianity and Judaism in particular). It gets tiresome ...and is often very inaccurate and preachy.

    "Very dissapointed in Jodi"

I've been a Jodi fan for a long time. This book was not up to her standards. How can she rewrite The Green Mile and get away with it?? The narration was wonderful though and entertaining and if you havent read The Green Mile you might like this. If you have read it I suggest you forget this one and read, My sisters keeper, her best in my opinion, Nineteen Minutes and The Plain Truth.

    Story
"Not as good as some of her books."

Picoult’s hot button issue for this book involves a death row inmate who wants to donate his heart to the sister of the little girl he killed, along with her step-father. The problem is that the sentence was to be carried out by lethal injection, and if that form of death was used, he could not donate his heart as it would not be functional. His civil liberties lawyer is arguing that the state hang him instead of killing him through injection. That’s the main issue in this book. The problem with the book is that it contains several other issues, some involving such things as that perhaps he can perform miracles. The main issue is well laid out, and Picoult has clearly done her usual thorough research involving the medical and legal problems surrounding death sentences and donation of body organs. But this book could have done with fewer additional issues.
