Animal lovers Doreen Tovey and her husband acquire their first Siamese kitten to rid themselves of an invasion of mice. But Sugieh is not just any cat.
She's an actress, a prima donna, an iron hand in a delicate, blue-pointed glove. Sugieh quickly establishes herself as queen of the house.
First published over forty years ago, this warm, witty and moving story has never gone out of style; a truly enjoyable read for anyone who's ever been owned by a cat. Doreen Tovey has written over a dozen books, which have sold over 100,000 copies in eight countries.

"The most enchanting cat book ever." (Jilly Cooper)
It's very soothing and lovely. Pretty funny. Basically, it's one of those books you can take instead of prozac, which is exactly what I was looking for.
The reading is very fitting and also pleasant. I bought 2 other books by this author after listening to this one.
The only minus I could mention - is that the book has a place where the reader repeats the lines with a slight change in emphasis and one where you can hear her sigh and re-do the line. It doesn't really bother me in any way, but the publishers should know of this.
I did enjoy Cats In The Belfry. It is basically a series of anecdotes by a owner of several siamese cats. The anecdotes are mostly somewhat whimsical, so it makes for a pretty pleasant read. Two downsides though: firstly, the reading was somewhat difficult to listen to. It is read by a British woman, talking extremely fast in long long long run-on sentences. It takes a long time to get used to that and to hear and process all the words. The other thing that for me is challenging to get past, is the fact that this is a story about a family who acquires a cross-eyed Siamese queen and attempts to breed her. In breeders circles, that is considered somewhat of a travesty, and the book seems to be clueless about the whole morality question of that.
Aside from those problems though, the stories are sweet and mostly light-hearted fare that are easy and enjoyable to listen to. I am glad that I got this audiobook.
A bit twee in places but cat lovers will really enjoy this.
"Old fashioned charm"
This is a cat lovers book but was written in another email. It might appeal to those who feel nostalgic for the post war period.
No....the mini stories that made up this book are sweet, but after one or two they become a bit repetitive and loose some of their charm. One book is enough.
The narration was a bit fast on "normal speed" and the narrators voice is a slightly irritating high pitched one, and this did detract a little.
I discovered these books many years ago, they made me laugh and occasionally cry then and still do. Have already recommended them.
So many really find it difficult to choose one.
Mainly laugh out loud.
