Publisher's summary

Maggie Beaumont's luck is about to change. Sure, she's known for her bad romantic choices-her former boyfriend broke up with her by bringing his new girlfriend home for a visit. And then there was the crush she had on a gorgeous young Irishman, who turned out to be Father Tim, the parish's new priest. But romantic salvation has arrived in the form of handsome, if surly, fisherman Malone. It turns out there's a heart of gold underneath his barnacle-clad exterior. Will this catch of the day turn into the dish of a lifetime?

Narration better than the story.

Not to be harsh as I genuinely like this author, but the best thing about this was the narration. Ms. Sands saved it for me. I think I understand that Maggie (leading character) was supposed to inspire you to root for the underdog, the good woman who can't find a good man. But, unfortunately, I just found her continuing, NEVER ending bad choices to become annoying after awhile. Far more emphasis and time is devoted to the wrong relationships / friendships than to the relationship she ultimately winds up in. I was left feeling a little shortchanged, not really understanding what the couple really had going for them other than sex at the end. (Enjoyed Ms. Higgins "Blue Heron" series.

Wonderful romance

It’s a great romance with twists and turns. It’s a great idea to definitely have Kleenex handy

nuances of every day life

I liked the character details and intimacy of personal thought and goofy thoughts of main character, relatable

Fantastic Narration

The characters in this story were very interesting. The writing style was fluid and well done. It was the story itself that I struggled with. For such a long book there was barely any interaction between the romantic leads. There was so much potential, but it just felt like the story ended without any... I've been trying to find the right way to explain how I felt at the end. The best I can come up with is incomplete. It didn't feel quite finished.

I cried and I laughed!

What a great book! Kristan Higgins brings such deep feelings into her stories. This one made me smile, laugh out loud, and cry when life became so hurtful and sad for Maggie. It was a roller coaster of emotions, just like her life. I loved this book and recommend it as great listening.

Disappointing

The story was a little weird...the main love interest never says more than maybe 30 phrases the entire book, and I found myself left unsatisfied. I kept expecting the author to give him a little more play, at least a few more scenes with Maggie, the main character, so we could get to know him. But we're left with just a few grunts here and there and the surrounding story was just ok. The whole storyline about Father Tim was just weird too. I could summarize this book as "desperate woman falls in love with guy who doesn't talk to her or treat her very well, but he's hot and the only one available so why not." Not one of Higgins better books, in my opinion.

Slow start and mediocre narration

The story started off slow, but ended well. The main character was infuriating at times, but she got better. The narration was bad and it was hard to hear at times because her voice tapered off at the end of sentences.

Loved it! But..

It was such a long, slow burn, with SO much awkward angst on the part of the female lead, I REALLY wished there was one last chapter or an epilogue to revel in her newfound joy and sense of peace. One more chapter. Please?

Catch of the Day

I'd say it's a little bit far-fetched but I really enjoyed the listen. It left me feeling happy.
