Rarely does adolescent love reach its full potential, but what happens when two young lovers reunite after 11 years? Time has transformed Pilar into a strong and independent woman, while her devoted childhood friend has grown into a handsome and charismatic spiritual leader. She has learned well how to bury her feelings...and he has turned to religion as a refuge from his raging inner conflicts.
Now they are together once again, embarking on a journey fraught with difficulties, as long-buried demons of blame and resentment resurface after more than a decade. But in a small village in the French Pyrenees, by the waters of the River Piedra, a most special relationship will be reexamined in the dazzling light of some of life's biggest questions.

"Coelho's familiar message about the spirituality of love will please his devoted following." (Booklist)
"Sex and God whipped into a tasty mayonnaise." (Kirkus Reviews)
A beautiful love story. If you are a catholic/christian you will really enjoy it. The readers accent was fantastic and suits the character well.Totally worth it. Paulo Coehlo did another great job!!
The heroine, she is a great character
The narrator was one of the worst I've heard. Poor distinction between characters
None, the book was great. I had high hopes for the audio book as well but disappointed
I always labor through even if I don't like a book or don't like the narrator of an audible book. I jut couldn't waste minutes I'll never get back finishing this. And I tried. Especially since I've always loved Stephanie Zimbalist. Story seemed pointless and jut never picked up. I hate to bash books. I can't write and I appreciate a good/great read like few other things in life. But some books just aren't that appealing (to me). Sadly this is one of them. To the point I stopped reading, it just never hooked me and made me want to continue reading. The characters evoked no emotion, nor even negative emotions.
To finish a book, I have to be engaged enough. I have began many books with much more interesting topics, but not finish them. Coelho keeps you engaged.
I read this book expecting another masterpiece like "the Alchemist".
I wouldn`t say I wasted my time but I have to say that it got a little to religious in the middle and I lost track of the story all together.
