Rarely does adolescent love reach its full potential, but what happens when two young lovers reunite after 11 years? Time has transformed Pilar into a strong and independent woman, while her devoted childhood friend has grown into a handsome and charismatic spiritual leader. She has learned well how to bury her feelings...and he has turned to religion as a refuge from his raging inner conflicts.
Now they are together once again, embarking on a journey fraught with difficulties, as long-buried demons of blame and resentment resurface after more than a decade. But in a small village in the French Pyrenees, by the waters of the River Piedra, a most special relationship will be reexamined in the dazzling light of some of life's biggest questions.

"Sex and God whipped into a tasty mayonnaise." (Kirkus Reviews)
A beautiful love story. If you are a catholic/christian you will really enjoy it. The readers accent was fantastic and suits the character well.Totally worth it. Paulo Coehlo did another great job!!
Oh my GOD !!! What a book !
It's not just the story but the message and the words and the thoughts it evokes and brings to life from the subconscious to the conscious .......the truth . The narration was Excellent.
Story was ok. Loved the performance and the music was a nice touch, but the audio in the last 25 minutes was fuzzy. I ended up just reading the remaining book in my physical copy because of this.
A slow gentle story of love and friendship with beautiful spiritual messages woven within it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It read very much like a meditation. Always made me feel restful so I listened , so I began to listen before bed and before nap time ;)
Performance was great. Not a big fan of the story. Felt that there could have been more and some actions from the main character didn't make sense
Coelho has a way of writing stories that are altogether a fantasy in which to get lost but that maintain elements of familiarity which make the lessons shared all the more impactful. This book is promoted as one about forgiveness. It really unpacks the complexity of this concept and reveals how love, faith and grieving are all components of forgiveness. I feel so content and satisfied with the read. I appreciated Zimbalist's narration and that her accent aided in bringing to life the story set mainly in Southwestern Europe. There were some audio recording malfunctions where there was static and crackling noises. Overall, the novel is a literary treasure. I'm better for it.
The narrator Stephanie Zimbalist and the background music that would pop up at times throughout the story.
Lover her accent and tone of voice. It fit the story perfect.
Such a great book. It has everything you would expect from Paulo. The story isn't religious, it's spiritual just like all of Paulo's books. Although the story is fiction, the things, tales and people that are talked about are all real, which makes the book that much more magical. I rank this book as high as The Alchemist. Stephanie Zimbalist does a great job with the narration as well. Highly Recommended!
I loved the Alchemist. So I decided to listen to another book by Paulo Coelho. This is a story about true love and sacrifice. The Alchemist is still my favorite but this story of true love was touching. Coelho writes books with hidden deep meaning. I have to listen to his books over and over to catch the full message and how it holds meaning in my life. We are blessed to have a writer that understands so much about the lessons we need to learn in this life.
To finish a book, I have to be engaged enough. I have began many books with much more interesting topics, but not finish them. Coelho keeps you engaged.
"just what I needed"
loved every bit of it! ... i don't get time to read...and this works perfectly for me.
