Publisher's summary

London, 1822

It was only supposed to be one night. One night to determine once and for all if he truly preferred men. But the last thing Lord Benjamin Parker expected to find in a questionable gambling hall in Cheapside is a gorgeous young man who steals his heart.

It was only supposed to be a job. Cavin Fox has done it many times - select a prime mark, distract him with lust, and leave his pockets empty. Yet when Cavin slips away under the cover of darkness, the only part of Benjamin he leaves untouched is his pockets.

With a taste of his fantasies fulfilled, Benjamin wants more than one night with Cavin. But convincing the elusive young man to give them a chance proves difficult. Cavin lives with a band of thieves in the worst area of London, and he knows there's no place for him in a gentleman's life. Yet Benjamin isn't about to let Cavin - and love - continue to slip away from him.

Thief of Heart

Where does Brook Street: Thief rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I cannot really rate it on that level; this is my first time reading something of this magnitude. I was curious and the reviews seemed good. It was very interesting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Brook Street: Thief?

I loved how Cavin took care of Sam. He did for Sam what he wished someone would have done for him when he was younger.

What about Charlie Belmont’s performance did you like?

Charlie Belmont's performance was great. I alway enjoy when a narrator uses distinct voice for each character; it gives it a more ture-to-life feeling when listening.

If you could take any character from Brook Street: Thief out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I loved the 3 main character, Lord Benjamin, Cavin and Sam. These characters brought passion, warmth and just a human touch to the story.

Any additional comments?

At the onset of listening to this book, I was a little taken back by the raw language, but I continued to listen not focusing on that but looking for the meat in the story. This was a very warm, passionate and caring story, narrated very well by Mr. Belmont. In today’s world, this was quite true-to-life and takes the listener to the other side. I thought it was beautifully done.

Story That Stole My Heart

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I like love stories where lovers join up despite insurmountable odds.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cavin, who transcended his squalid background, and acted against his own interests for the welfare of his loved ones.

Have you listened to any of Charlie Belmont’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Cavin trying to find work despite odds and refusing to seek Ben's help.

Wonderful story not too complicated but heartfelt

A thief and a lord meet and fall in love and events conspire to keep them away but the Lord loves his thief and finds a way (a Harlequin of course it's a HEA ending).

Not much to this beyond the premise

Cavin’s a thief and Ben’s a lord who thinks he likes men. When Cavin gives Ben his first time, it forms a connection. There’s not much more to the story than that. Other than working through their relationship, the feast of the story happens offscreen and is merely summarized (for instance, there’s never a scene where Cavin nicks someone’s pocket … we just are told it happened). All the detail is instead left for the sex scenes which are nonetheless sweet rather than rough.

This whole novella was on the kind and gentle end. Any conflict about either of their lifestyles is minimal and easily dealt with. I like this narrator because it’s easy to distinguish the three male voices. The next novella (Fortune Hunter) has better energy, but for the price, this was a decent listen.
