This entire series is a must read for anyone who enjoys a great novel and/or enjoys the civil war. Great writing and narration. Enjoy the entire series.
As a Northerner I have always approached the Civil War from a Northern perspective. This book had me rooting for the rebels.
The greatest disappointment is that after four novels I want a fifth!
Exciting, compelling, intriguing
I really enjoyed how the author wrapped a fictional character around historical events and drew you into the characters lives. A great way to learn about historical events also.
Am not sure, but I really enjoy the different inflections for different characters.
See Starbucks personal drama's amid one of the countries biggest drama's.
I enjoyed this read immensely and have listened to the entire Nathanial Starbuck chronicles and really enjoyed them all. Sad I got to the last one and had to leave them.
"A fitting end?"
Mr Cornwell is keeping us guessing about whether there will be any more Starbuck books. Basically the Sharpe series kind of swallowed poor Starbuck hole. I hope we will see more but if not this was a fitting end for his US Civil War hero. A classic battle and a book filled with the intrigue of feuding characters and the utter terror and stupidity that epitomised the warfare of the period. An excellent read and the usual excellent performance from master Gardner, the man with a voice like liquid granite.
