Publisher's summary

Where there's fire, there's smoke.

Smoke Jensen has journeyed up to the Colorado Rockies to a sell a prized bull to a local rancher. Instead, the rancher and his wife have been mercilessly slaughtered by outlaws only moments before Smoke's arrival. In a hail of bullets, Smoke pulverizes two of the murderers and drags two others to the town of Brown Spur for justice. Come hanging day, the two killers are on the way to the gallows when a thundering gang of raiders crashes into town and rescues them from the jaws of death.

When the bloody onslaught is over, dead bodies litter the streets, and Smoke Jensen is a man on a mission. Calling themselves the Ghost Riders, a savage gang of outlaws has stealthily moved in from Wyoming Territory. Smoke now has a personal motive for going up against the Ghost Riders. No matter how many they are, no matter how many guns they have, he'll hunt them down - one killer at a time....

Smoke and Cal

All of these books on Smoke is good. This one has a lot in it on Cal which makes it even better. I like Cal and Pearly in the books they add a lot of excitement to the book. Cal gets shot and the story goes from there. This is a five star book well worth the money or a credit. Although the ending should have been different. Jack garrett does a great job narrating this book. if my review is any help will you pt click on the helpful link below. Thank you

A little to violent

Narration was excellent, but in my view, the story was a bit simple for Johnstone. The plot was fine, but certain elements seemed to be fitted in to fill space, rather than expand upon what was happening or had recently occurred.

Not his best work

Sadly this feels like a filler book. I didnt like Jack Garrett's voice after the other guys they have used,, he doesn't project strong male characters well.. Smoke made uncharacteristic decisions and it was a weak storyline.

Weak Story

Least favorite story of the series. Very predictable. Narrator was good however. Easy listening book.

possibly the worst book I have ever tried to read

Maybe "worst book ever" is overstating it. I have read some really horrible books, but having just finished this book, this one stands out right now. Normally I would not have finished a book this bad, but I happened to be in the middle of a long drive when I started it, and it was the only book I had to get me through the drive. It was still touch and go but I made it through the entire experience.

Take the script of every hokey 1950's TV western, toss them into a pile, sort them back out and make a book out of them but replace the mandatory "happily ever after" endings with a horrible unfair ending for a couple of your main characters and you would have something like this horrible book. I understand that a certain amount of hokey cliches are to be expected in this genre, but the author went way too far with this one for me to have any chance of enjoying it.

Bad ending!

Good story ruined by bad ending. Could have been great story to build on. Sorry I even started it
