Publisher's summary

This collection of short stories from the master of modern fiction is available only as an audiobook. In Blood and Smoke, Stephen King takes us inside a world of yearning and paranoia, isolation and addiction. It is the world of the smoker. In this audio-only collection, the now politically incorrect habit plays a key role in the fates of three different men in three unabridged stories of unfiltered suspense. In Lunch at the Gotham Café, Steve Davis is suffering through intense withdrawal - from both nicotine and his wife. His desperation for a cigarette and for his ex are almost too much to bear, but that's nothing compared to the horrors that await him at a trendy Manhattan restaurant. In 1408, Mike Enslin, best selling author of "true" ghost stories, decides to spend the night in New York City's most haunted hotel room. But he must live to write about it without the help of his ex best-friends, his trusty smokes. And in In the Deathroom, a man named Fletcher is held captive in a Central American stronghold. His captors will use any torturous means necessary to extract the information they want from him. His only hope lies with his last request - one last cigarette, please.

Features the tale 1408, now a Dimension Films motion picture starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.

Great Stories

Love Steve's books! However, he might want to leave the reading to professionals lol. <3

Smokers

I got this when it first came out and thought it was great. King should do another set of stories on smokers or non-smokers or sort-of-smokers, whatever that group is!

Reliable King

Short but satisfying tale from the master. Had all the elements I have come to love and expect: humor, wit, New England (island) culture, and of course, dead bodies and creepy stuff. King sprinkles his writing with characters I think of as the "cool old guys", stalwart Yankee heroes who may be getting on in years but can still think on their feet and most especially tell the young folks a good story. There are 2 such in this book, and they are lots of fun. Great reading performance also.

Good stories as always

Hated and loved listening to Stephens voices and noises for characters. Some of the piercing to the ear but necessary to get his characters across how he wants them seen.

If you have Everything's Eventual skip this one

For some reason it just didn't register with my brain that all stores in this audio book are in Everything's Eventual. Pretty disappointing to get a book that says 'only available as an audio book' when that's only true in the most vague way. Yes, Blood and Smoke is only available as an audio book but the stories are included in a lager collection. If you don't have Everything's Eventual or not going to buy it, then go for it, great stories and I love hearing King read his own.

I 1st owned this as an Audio book on cassettes. I feel like 1408 is the best story of the 3.

Stick to Writing

I really enjoyed the story lines. Great reasons to quit smoking. However, as much as I enjoy reading and listening to Stephen King's books, he should stick to writing them and give up reading them for us audio book users. His voice and reading style lacks conviction and convincing.
