Publisher's summary

This collection of short stories from the master of modern fiction is available only as an audiobook. In Blood and Smoke, Stephen King takes us inside a world of yearning and paranoia, isolation and addiction. It is the world of the smoker. In this audio-only collection, the now politically incorrect habit plays a key role in the fates of three different men in three unabridged stories of unfiltered suspense. In Lunch at the Gotham Café, Steve Davis is suffering through intense withdrawal - from both nicotine and his wife. His desperation for a cigarette and for his ex are almost too much to bear, but that's nothing compared to the horrors that await him at a trendy Manhattan restaurant. In 1408, Mike Enslin, best selling author of "true" ghost stories, decides to spend the night in New York City's most haunted hotel room. But he must live to write about it without the help of his ex best-friends, his trusty smokes. And in In the Deathroom, a man named Fletcher is held captive in a Central American stronghold. His captors will use any torturous means necessary to extract the information they want from him. His only hope lies with his last request - one last cigarette, please.

Features the tale 1408, now a Dimension Films motion picture starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.

If you have Everything's Eventual skip this one

For some reason it just didn't register with my brain that all stores in this audio book are in Everything's Eventual. Pretty disappointing to get a book that says 'only available as an audio book' when that's only true in the most vague way. Yes, Blood and Smoke is only available as an audio book but the stories are included in a lager collection. If you don't have Everything's Eventual or not going to buy it, then go for it, great stories and I love hearing King read his own.

Smokers Beware

Stephen King always suprises you. If you enjoy reading something besides the standard "Scary Carrie" stories, try this collection which represents an amalgam of short works on the theme of smoking. Not only will you enjoy the stories, you'll probably find ample reason to quit smoking after doing so.

Excellent!

Very cool to have the stories read to you by the author. The middle story, "1408", is creepy and intense - a great ghost story.

Enjoying Stephen King again

I have no time to read. I have two kids and a full time job so this is perfect. Getting used to Stephen's voice takes a little time, but if you have seen him on tv or in person talking its much easier to get used to it. As for his reading, its just great. People have said that hes one tone or boring, well he is a professional writer and this is not his usual gig. I look at this as a gift of sorts and we could have done much worse than this.
I've downloaded all of his books that he reads and I'm glad I did. You never know when a treasure like this will be gone for good.

Great stories!

While not the best narrator, the author actually gives an admirable performance, so don't let that put you off.

Suspenseful, well-written, and solid delivery. Classic King.

Any additional comments?

Lol. Not my first round with this collection, but I still cannot get enough of Lunch at the Gothem Cafe. It always gets me rolling. Definately creepy, but totally enjoyable.
