Nice But A Bit Too Much Going On - CLIFFHANGER

Any additional comments?

This is a 'Contemporary Western Romance' NOT Historical.

Hutch and Slade are half-brothers, they share the same father. Hutch always worked on his father's ranch with his unappreciative father. However, Hutch knows that one day - when his father passes - he will inherit the whole thing and it will be worth it all.

Meanwhile, Slade [and his single mother] scrape together a living for themselves. She a hairdresser and he, the Sheriff - both respectable members of the community.

When the day finally comes that their father has passed away, his lawyer calls both men to her office for the reading of the will. Slade is not sure why he is here – as his father denied him his entire life, but out of respect for the well-known family attorney he attends. The will is a great surprise to everyone. It divides the property and assets between the two brothers, 50–50. While Slade has no interest in the farm he wants to try it out for a little while before giving up/selling his share.

Joslyn is a hometown girl that left town when her father was arrested and jailed for something similar to a Ponzi scheme. He swindled many of the young and middle-aged people out of life savings. After spending years away, Joslyn decides that enough time has passed that no one will notice her moving back. She comes with her own set of problems, beyond the backlash from investors and the overwhelming guilt she feels.

It is quite the adventure and kept me on my toes. There is a lot going on besides the on/off romance between Joslyn & Slade, an anonymous source reimbursing the victims of the financial scheme, a rodeo, etc.... I think the author included more characters and 'situations' than needed, but I have found this common in a lot of books that are the first in series

The narration was great and believable.

NOTE: A 'mature' scene or two.

I enjoyed this book, though there is a bit of the cliffhanger. There are 5 books in the series available on Audible. It is a good book and I will probably look for the next in the series.

Cowboys & Montana.....(SIGH)

As always Linda Lael Miller brings together perfection, perfect setting, perfect story line, perfect romance. I loved the Creed and the McKettrick series from Miller and this one fits the bill as well. Jack Garrett does an excellent job at narration, he just has that great 'cowboy' voice. Wonderful book to just set back listen and cuddle in on a good, nice, dreamy, rainy day.

A Great Pay Back!

Joslyn Kirk returns to Parable, Montana her previous hometown that she and her mother left under a cloud of suspicion. Joslyn's step father had hatched a scheme and embezzaled money from many of the citizens of town causing many to lose everything they had. She runs into Slade Barlow the illegitimate son of one of the wealthiest ranchers of the area. A major problem in Slade's life is Slade's father never acknowledged him while he was living, but upon his death he left Slade half of his assests, which sends his half brother into a tizzy. When Joslyn had lived in Parable before she and Hutch (Slade's half brother) were an item, however now it seems that Slade and Joslyn are feeling the sparks between them.
Now the big question for everyone is "Why has Joslyn returned to town?"
This is an easy read, very predictable romance, however the journey was good. I enjoyed it and Slade is such a jewel, what woman wouldn't want him?

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!

I've found another narrator I really like. Jack Garrett is great doing Linda Lael Miller's modern western. I have read Linda Lael Miller's books for years and they just keep getting better.

OK

It took me a long time to get through this book. The writing was predictable. The narrator was very professional. He was like being read to by your college professor or your Dad...which seemed icky to me when the sex finally happened.
I think he did his best and probably does great with other stories but for me he was not a romance reader...although he did southern voices very well.
Maybe this was just a bad fit for me. I have listened to other LLM books and liked them but it has been awhile. For me this book seemed tedious.

Not her best work

It struggles a little but finally gets to the end. A little too much drama in the wrong places makes it less than this author's best work. The narrator is good for the story.

Another hit for LLM!

Big fan of Linda Lael Miller. No book will ever top 'High Country Bride' for me but I'm always hopefull. 'Big Sky Country' is a good read/listen.

I wanted to like this book more than I did.

As a main character, Jocelyn was very uninteresting to me, and didn't have much development. She started out unsure, timid, and feeling unloved. She only graduated to feeling somewhat confident and loved. Slade is a capable male lead, who doesn't say much or feel much. I liked him much better than Jocelyn. I'm thinking Kendra and Hutch will be more interesting, since they have a past. Oh, and I read tons of romance books, and the characters (and writers) tend to be very homogenous. I didn't like that the Opal character was described as an elderly black lady whose sole purpose in the story was to be the domestic help, although she supposedly retired.
