Publisher's Summary

New York Times best seller Jeffrey Archer continues his beloved Clifton Chronicle series as Harry and Emma finally begin building a happy life - but a dangerous family enemy is about to resurface....

Best Kept Secret opens a moment after the end of The Sins of the Father, with the resolution of the trial and the triumphant marriage of Harry Clifton and Elizabeth Barrington, finally uniting their family. Harry, now a best-selling novelist; Emma; their son, Sebastian; and orphaned Jessica make a new life for themselves, but all is not as happy and secure as it could be. Emma's brother, Giles, is engaged to a woman who may be more interested in Barrington's fortune and title than in a long and happy marriage. And Sebastian, though he is bright, isn't quite the hard worker that his father was at school, and finds a hard time resisting the temptations that his somewhat unsavory friends provide.

It all comes to a head when a new villain is uncovered, a face from the past with grudges against both Harry and Giles - Fisher, who tortured Harry at school and later took credit for Giles' heroics during the war. Fisher teams up with Giles' now ex-wife to wreak havoc on Giles' latest election as well as meddle with affairs inside Barringtons, while Harry and Emma must deal with a new scheme that Sebastian has unwittingly fallen into with a supposed friend. The drama continues for Harry Clifton and his family, bringing this mesmerizing saga into the 1960s.

    "Well Paced"

The author has a more sofisticated pace that keeps the reader solidly engaged with the plot line. The best written so far.

    "Just keeps getting better..."

I have come to believe that Jeffery Archer is a master of the cliff hanger, and the one at the end of this book is a kin to the season finale of Dallas when the question on everyone’s mind was “Who shot JR.” We are now to the mid-1950s in this continuation of the Clifton/Barrington family saga, and it just goes on an on. I have no idea why I am so taken with this series, but it is a bit like being stuck on a roller coaster ride that never comes to an end, and I don’t want it to. Archer is so popular that I have had to put the next two installments on hold at my online library. I’m next in line for #4 and 4th in line for #5. So I must needs move on to something else in the meantime which is somewhat irritating. Another excellent installment. 5 stars.

Worst of the Clifton Chronicles so far. Spent a lot of time dragging out uninteresting things.

    "I enjoyed this book !"

After reading the reviews I was in 2 minds wether to purchase this book or not as I had so enjoyed the first 2 books
And it seemed many were not happy with book 3.

I am so glad I did I found it a great read not quite like the first 2 but it has its own tempo and the narrator is amazing I feel he adds so much to this series , granted the plot is sort of rehashed in some ways , but still i am enjoying it and will keep going with book 4 and 5.

    "Worst ending ever!"

This "trilogy" showed such promise but died somewhere in the second book. I agree with some other listeners that characters were not sufficiently developed and the book ended more abruptly than any book I've ever read. Very disappointed.

    "Good listen for train rides"

Story kept my interest with plot twists. Characters while somewhat predictable and idealistic, they are all like able. Good listen for long train rides.

    "Love the Harry Clifton Chronicles"

Third book in the Harry Clifton Chronicles. I loved the other two previous books. This one continues the magic. If you love a character-driven, subtle action series this is it- super. The voice actor was amazing as well with very easy and quick changes male/female and regional accents.

    "Sit back and enjoy"

It's always a treat watching the characters grow up. Even though they are pretty static, what they say and do is always entertaining. Of course, I'm such a fan of Archer and his ability to carry a story over decades.
