Flash-forward 15 years. Valerie Adler has found a measure of fame and fortune working as the weathergirl at the local TV station. Addie Downs lives alone in her parents' house in their small hometown of Pleasant Ridge, Illinois, caring for a troubled brother and trying to meet Prince Charming on the Internet. She's just returned from Bad Date #6 when she opens her door to find her long-gone best friend standing there, a terrified look on her face and blood on the sleeve of her coat.
"Something horrible has happened," Val tells Addie, "and you're the only one who can help."

i just read all of jennifer weiners books in a row and then to read this...what a let down. different style which was what kept me reading it thinking that it would pick up but it didnt. i wont give up on her as a writer but she should go back to her old style. just felt that there were lots of gaps...
I've read all of Ms. Weiner's books--and this one is the first and only to disappoint me. It was very predictable and felt as if I waited too long for the characters to develop, and once they did the ending was cut short into a few paragraphs. Didnt get to see the main relationship evolve at all, there were many many details missing from the first kiss to the end of the book. I still love Jennifer, I hope her future works provide more of the storytelling in her other work.
This is about my 7th audio book. It's a bit strange how these two are friends. Ultimately they are two lost people that just spent time together when they were young. I don't get the reconciliation.
This is the first audiobook that I've listened to so I can't comment on the narration since I have nothing to compare it to. I have read all of the Jennifer Weiner books and I have to say this one was terribly disappointing. Her writing style was completely different and I feel as if this was a romance novel instead of a typical Jennifer Weiner novel. It was VERY predictable, to the point that I was frequently guessing correctly what would happen next. Like I said, very disappointing.
I loved the story, but was disappointed to find out it was just an abridged version. My fault for not reading closer. Jennifer Weiner, you have written another very engaging book!
