The army had said it was a training accident. But why had the coffin they sent home been sealed? So on a dark night, in a deserted field, Tom begins to unearth the mass grave where he hopes—and fears—that he will find his son's remains. He finds instead madness: corpses in chains and dead bodies that still move and grasp and clutch. And one little girl, dead and rotting, who promises to help Tom find what he's looking for, if only he will free her.

If you are looking for a twisted, dark, and a emotional rollercoaster then this is the book for you. I loved the book. Thought the book was clever, fast-paced, and spooky! I assume there will be a part 2, if not, there needs to be.
This started book started a little slow. It turned out okay but very frustrating at times due to the major character asking the same questions (same doubts) throughout the story. He seemed a bit slow! He would see 'proof' that the girl 'moved' but even by the end of the story kept pondering 'did I see her move? She couldn't have moved' and on and on and on.
This kept my attention! I am looking forward to reading more books by Tim Lebbon. I found myself looking for an excuse to put on my headphones and listen. If you enjoy King or Koontz Give this a try!
Overall I was not disappointed by Berserk. It was not perfect. There were some annoying snags here and there. One of my favorite features of the story was the bumbling, idiotic "Professional Soldier" who just kept screwing up on so many levels. Very refreshing after reading a Joe Ledger novel or two.
The story itself was simple but reasonably compelling with some solid grotesque visuals, and the tale was well-narrated. I was not impressed with the character development and some elements were repetitive, but the story arc was sound and kept my attention.
The story started slow, but eventually got moving. It was compelling most of the way. My only complaint about the narration was that the transition from scene to scene often did not have a pause. This left me confused until I realized the scene had changed. My biggest complaint though, is the ending. It's granted that all stories/movies of the horror genre will end badly. It's almost unheard of for a happy ending. This story's ending wasn't scary, it was just depressing.
If you like blood & guts, with an unbelievable story, then you'll like this. I got about half way through and just couldn't take another second. The best thing I can say about it is the narrator was good. If I could have given the story zero stars, I would have.
"Not for me...."
This story started off great but descended into a zombie flesh feast . Suppose I should have seen it coming I just thought it may have been more intelligent prehaps explaining the why was it done the narration was good but didnt like the story was glad to finish the book..
