    Story
"A good summer read (although slightly flawed)"

I enjoyed this book - it was light and refreshing and the story line was entertaining. I liked that there were a few unexpected surprises in the story line. There was also a wide array of very colorful characters. I actually found some of less central characters to be particularly intriguing. However, the main character, Margo, was hard to like at times. I also found the story line about the bride and her fiance to be a bit boring and I thought the mother's notebook was a bit much - she was very overbearing! I also think the narrator's southern accent (which applied to just a few of the characters) was pretty terrible - it was distracting. But all in all, it was a good book - primarily because of the less central plot lines. The best part was the diversity of the characters - that was great! I truly appreciate it when there are diverse characters (in this case, a black gay male who was one of the minor characters) - diversity is often something that is overlooked in "beach reads."

    "Not the most exciting read"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No-nothing really happens. The love interest development was extremely lacking

Would you be willing to try another book from Elin Hilderbrand? Why or why not?

Yes. Overall the descriptions were interesting. More character development and action could have fixed it

What three words best describe Therese Plummer’s voice?

    Interesting, high-pitched, sometimes obnoxious

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No. Anticlimactic and underdeveloped

    Any additional comments?

The narrators interpretation of male voices drove me absolutely crazy and took from the story.

    "A Must Listen! Great storyline"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I love how the author captures everyone in each character life. It puts you into the story and makes you understand everything.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Margo and Anne. Margo for being a strong independent women and single parent, I loved how the author created her character and made you understand her life, feelings and emotions.

Anne - In her generation, it makes you understand why you will give your husband a 2nd chance, if though I won't have accepted my husband back. The strong feelings made me feel real inside of me - the emotions were so strong in the book.

We can't forget Douglas - I love this man!! He's every women's dream husband.

Which character – as performed by Therese Plummer – was your favorite?

Therese did an excellent job in each character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I felt the emotions in Anne's feelings against her husband Jim and his ex-wife.

    Any additional comments?

I hope they will make a another book - I would like to know what happens to Douglas and Margo and the rest of the siblings especially Nick.

    A movie would be great!

    "Lovely story though unrealistic!"
Have you listened to any of Therese Plummer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to Therese Plummer read several series. She never disappoints. One of my favorite readers.

    Any additional comments?

A wedding takes place choreographed by the dead mother. I couldn't help but be drawn into the lives of the characters in A Beautiful Day. But I found the slavish devotion to Beth Carmichael's "notebook" outlining her youngest daughter's wedding a bit farfetched. I'm not sure how a mother dictates from the grave nor do I understand the daughter's unwillingness to stray from her mother's instructions on the most important day of her life. The characters were wonderful, especially Margo, but the influence of the "notebook" was unrealistic, at best.

    "Not Hilderbrand's Best"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes but with reservation. It makes for an ok summer read. Therese Plummer is excellent and I will definitely be checking out other books she has narrated.

But the story grew tiresome at times. I found Margo's whining and pining for Edge to be more than a little annoying. This is a successful woman. She should have snapped out it and found someone who actually cared for her instead that man who treated her like crap. I felt like the author was trying to make some sort of statement by mentioning the gay black boyfriend. Too many minor characters bringing suitcases full of baggage to the story.

Would you recommend Beautiful Day to your friends? Why or why not?

Possibly if they were looking for some escapist reading.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

If I were reading the book, I would have bailed on it before I finished. Her narration was the main reason I finished the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No.

    Story
"Another great, easy read by Elin Hilderbrand!"
If you could sum up Beautiful Day in three words, what would they be?

    fun, light, entertaining

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was Margo...the story was told from her point of view, and I found it interesting reading a book about a wedding that wasn't from the bride's point of view.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She's a great reader...she's not monotone, which some other readers can be, and she does all of the different voices so well. The tone she used for Margo really 'matched' the description of Margo I would've had, had I read the book.

If you could take any character from Beautiful Day out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would love to talk to Helen Oppenhimer and ask her WTF? Haha!

    "My new favorite!"

I have listened to almost all of Elin Hilderbrand's books now, and for so many reasons, Beautiful Day is my new favorite! I usually limit my audio books to work, but this one I couldn't stop listening to...at work, on my walks, even at home. And, I will probably listen to it again someday... I really didn't want it to end.

"A Diary (The Notebook) Wedding Story"
What did you like best about Beautiful Day? What did you like least?

I liked best the wit and humor of the father and in laws. Least - the drama and long and drawn out Margot - she was not a fun character. Would like to have bridged the gap of The Surfing Lesson and Beautiful Day-- Left you hanging so was hoping to hear more detail of the end of the marriage of Margot, as her husband seemed to be a free spirit. Would like to have more humor in places like Something Borrowed to give it a little more edge. However the dedication to the grandparents was a nice touch and their marriage.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The detailed diary of the deceased mother (a little over the top). Least interesting was the big build up of Margot and her secret which was a big let down.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    When Doug was divorcing Pauline!

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

    Narrator did a good job
