What made the experience of listening to Battleground the most enjoyable?

This book continues the excellent merging of the fabulous writing of WEB Griffin and the outstanding narration of Dick Hill. Whenever I listen to The Corps series, I always pull up the maps of the region whre the fighting is described and follow along with the narration. This combination brings the story alive.

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Dick renders the characters in the story believable and adds the appropriate emotion and voice inflection that makes listening to the story fun.A good narrator makes a good book fun. A great narrator makes a great book memorable and brings the listener back again and again.

Another excellent book in W.E.B. Griffins Corp series. Mr. Dick Bill just may be the best narrator I've ever listened to. A good narrator makes a world of difference when listening to an audio book.

"No headway, spurious plot, superfluous tale."

As with the previous books, this is a retelling of the same story, different perspective.

    "Fits Nicely in the Series"

Familiar characters are cast into the battles with Japan near Guadalcanal and parts of Australia. Strong characters and great writing interweave with real people and events. I particularly liked the idea that the Sgt who knows too much is assigned to a combat unit by unknowing. I chuckled because I've seen the effect of too much secrecy. The climax is weak because it doesn't tie anything together and involves only one or two characters. This seems typical with Griffin's [series] books--the individual books blend, at the end, into one long memory.

    "Great installment"

Well done story. I really like the continuation of the lives of the characters introduced the earlier books. There was some copying of previous sections from earlier books, but I think this was needed because of the continuation of the story, especially if it has been a wild since the previous books read. Overall, an excellent book.

"Very good entry in great series"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in WWII. I have read/listened to many of W E B Griffin's military books and have loved them all. This one is right up there in his style of building a story around a number of different characters in different phases of the War and keeping the listener interested in all of them. Looking forward to downloading more from this series.

What other book might you compare Battleground to and why?

All of his WWII, Korean and after books are quite interesting and enjoyable to listen to

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

Capt Pickerin is a favorite in many of these books. Killer McCoy didn't have a big role in this book but he is a favorite of mine.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not a laughing or crying type book but when some of the regular characters are lost in the war, I feel like I've lost a friend.

    Any additional comments?

Read all of this series, you will enjoy it.
