Publisher's summary

Even four years after the sudden death of his wife, best selling novelist Mike Noonan can't stop grieving, nor can he return to his writing. Now his nights are plagued by vivid nightmares of the house by the lake. Despite these dreams, or perhaps because of them, he decides to return to Sara Laughs, the Noonans' isolated summer home. In his beloved Yankee town, he finds himself falling in love with a widowed young mother, who struggles to keep custody of her 3-year-old daughter. He is also drawn into the mystery of Sara Laughs, now the site of ghostly visitations, ever-escalating nightmares, and the sudden recovery of his writing ability. What are the forces that have been unleashed here - and what do they want of Mike Noonan?

One of his best

I have been a fan of Stephen King's books for quite a while and have to say that Bag of Bones is one of his best! Somehow, I missed reading it when it first came out, but am so glad to have purchased the audio version recently. I love to hear Stephen reading Stephen. He makes me feel as if I'm sitting right in front of him, in his living room, listening to him spin his yarns just for me. I feel every flinch, hear every sound, as if I'm right there in the story with him. Very Good book and a necessity for any Stephen King fan.

holds your attention to the end

I found this book kept me hooked till the end. A very clever story which though complex held together well.

THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a wonderful story! I found a new side to this multi-faceted author--romance! And who could possibly have read this better, with all the right inflections, pauses, and emphasis, than Stephen King himself.
This masterpiece would make a fabulous unabridged screen-play if Mr. King himself converts it from book to movie.
I am forever amazed at Mr. King's ability to cast the reader into the psyche of each character, and to stimulate the mind's eye to see every detail of the story.

King Speaks

No one writes as well as King in his genre. His early works still shine above all the others. This stands out as a critique of the business. Of course it is a well written story. However, I just cannot stand King as the narrator. If I would have caught that, I would have stuck to the book format. Very few authors can pull it off and I never though King could.

Very very good!

I loved this book. Just creepy enough, just enough twists and turns. King captured perfectly the sadness of a young widower, and the matter-of-factness of a "hauntee." Good stuff. This is why I listen to Stephen King.

A good story, but...

Aficionados know that a narrator can add or detract from one's enjoyment of an audiobook, and one might expect that the author of a book couldn't help but be the obvious best choice for its narrator. However, in this instance, it just isn't true. The story is very good and King fans won't be disappointed with it, I believe, but they might be disappointed, as was I, with the narration. It just didn't gel for me. Four stars for a well-written though, in my opinion, not-so-well-read yarn.

Stephen King, keep writing

Love the story but Stephen King as a narrator was awful! It literally was just him reading out loud. Please leave the narration to professionals. It made the story somewhat boring because there was no feeling or emotion in the reading.

A fun ghost story from a master!

I really enjoyed this book in spite of a little stall a few chapters in. I found myself drifting, it wasn't holding my attention, but I persevered and am so glad I did! Steven King's narration couldn't help but add to it with his flat Maine accent, it was perfect!
