Even four years after the sudden death of his wife, best selling novelist Mike Noonan can't stop grieving, nor can he return to his writing. Now his nights are plagued by vivid nightmares of the house by the lake. Despite these dreams, or perhaps because of them, he decides to return to Sara Laughs, the Noonans' isolated summer home. In his beloved Yankee town, he finds himself falling in love with a widowed young mother, who struggles to keep custody of her 3-year-old daughter. He is also drawn into the mystery of Sara Laughs, now the site of ghostly visitations, ever-escalating nightmares, and the sudden recovery of his writing ability. Bag of Fun!

This was a great read. It's not my favorite Stephen King novel (that title belongs to Duma Key) but it was extremely enjoyable.

Like any story, there are little things I could pick at; these items however are small questions regarding plot turns that would give away aspects of the novel to reveal, and did not impinge on my enjoyment of the story overall. My only real complaint is the depiction of a physical assault towards the end that was far more graphic than I needed.

I always enjoy Stephen King as a narrator as well, and his reading definitely added to the experience.

Will this book end up on my top 10 list? Nope. But I enjoyed the time I spent "On the TR" and if you typically enjoy Stephen King, I think you will too.

A different King

I was very pleasantly surprised. King shows a different range in this book. The depth of characters and complex storylines demonstrate King's matrurity and mastery as a writer. This is a long story, with many plotlines and characters, but the characters remained interesting throughout. You really care about what happens to them, and that is what good fiction writing is all about.

EXCELLENT

This was my first Stephen King book ever. I had always been afraid to read his books but this one just looked interesting. I was VERY glad I listened to it, it had just the right amount of scare and no gore. The fact that he reads the story himself is great. It had me interested from the start and kept me interested the entire way through. I found myself wishing my commute was longer some days. I thouroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. If you've never listed to (or read) Stephen King before this is the one to try. I recommended it to a friend and she is enjoying it now just as much as I did. Oh, and the bonus interview with him at the end is interesting too.

How did I miss this one?

Don't know what I was doing back in 1998 that made me miss this Stephen King book, but I'm rather glad to have the chance to listen to it now in 2012. Hearing King read the book was both intimate and chilling. Although the plot is supernatural (which I can't quite believe in), the characters are credible and I thoroughly enjoyed the listen.

More than I expected

What made the experience of listening to Bag of Bones the most enjoyable?

I loved hearing this story as Stephen King tells it. I love it when authors narrate their own works, it gives such soul to the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bag of Bones?

The twist at the end, after the storm.

What about Stephen King’s performance did you like?

The earnest way he told all of it, with making it too dramatic because the story was enough to keep me listening.

If you could rename Bag of Bones, what would you call it?

Sarah Laughs

Another great King novel!!

What made the experience of listening to Bag of Bones the most enjoyable?

the fact that he writes about a writer, almost an autobiography except for it is fiction of course...

What other book might you compare Bag of Bones to and why?

Finders Keepers sort of...

Have you listened to any of Stephen King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I don't miss any unabridged King novels that are 6 hours or more. This is one of my favorites.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have if possible

Another winner! Great narrator, Stephen King

Loved it. Grabbed me quickly and couldn't stop listening. From reality to way out there to explain reality.

Excellent Performance

I admit: I hesitated to purchase this as I did not expect King to deliver such a mesmerizing performance. Minutes into the narration, I fell in love with the depth of this work and the intimacy he has with the work. It was beautiful, I highly recommend d it! Not my favorite King story, but he did an excellent job of making me like it a whole lot more. Just do it!
