Publisher's summary

Even four years after the sudden death of his wife, best selling novelist Mike Noonan can't stop grieving, nor can he return to his writing. Now his nights are plagued by vivid nightmares of the house by the lake. Despite these dreams, or perhaps because of them, he decides to return to Sara Laughs, the Noonans' isolated summer home. In his beloved Yankee town, he finds himself falling in love with a widowed young mother, who struggles to keep custody of her 3-year-old daughter. He is also drawn into the mystery of Sara Laughs, now the site of ghostly visitations, ever-escalating nightmares, and the sudden recovery of his writing ability. What are the forces that have been unleashed here - and what do they want of Mike Noonan?

As usual, King kills it!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. Suspensful, performed by the master himself, and with its usual pathos and attention to detail (without boring you).

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bag of Bones?

The scene when all hell breaks out in the house/kitchen, tearing everything, including him, apart. That, and his memories and concerns about his wife, very touching and real.

What does Stephen King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice, his inflections, and the fact that he knew what he wanted to say to his Constant Reader, and loves the story so tells it magnificently.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Hmmm, they've already been there, done that, and it was pretty good. Directors seem to sometimes have a difficult time with King, thinking they can do it better -- word to the wise, NO ONE DOES IT BETTER, EVER!

Any additional comments?

LOVE Stephen King and just wish he could put out, oh, about one book a week to keep me in King, the bigger the better (slightly unreasonable, of course, but a wish IS a wish, after all).

Beautiful, rich, and immensely satisftying

A wonderful story. Never a dull moment. One of King's best, it's easy to forget that the story is fiction and that the characters do not really exist.

Stephen King narrating his own book?

At first, I really didn't like the idea of Stephen King narrating his own book. I've listened to a couple of his readings, and felt very strongly that the book would have been much much better had someone else read it. I do rather enjoy his books, so I decided to give, 'Bag of Bones ', a whirl. I wasn't very far into the book when I realized that no one else could have read it. Someone else stated that listening to King read, 'Bag of Bones', was as if King was sitting beside him, reading just for him. I strongly agree! I more than enjoyed this book. 'Bag of Bones' is one of those few books that I will undoubtedly listen to again and again.

Always the best read!

when he reads his own books there is a passion in it and enjoyment that you hear. Even in the worst parts of the characters experiences there is a way he presents it as "hey, this is what happened. I dont like it either. but you need to know this". and it really takes the story up a few notches. I prefer listening to him read his books over Netflix any time.

Great story by a great story teller

I got to say I love this story. Stephen King's audio performance is a little rocky at 1st but gets better by the 4th chapter . He Brings so much believe ability to a unbelievable story. Definitely recommend. It the story also has some good connections to other Stephen King books such as the Dark Half, IT and Insomnia. Definitely recommend that you read those 3 before reading this one.

A must read

If you have never read this book or if you only read one Stephen King book this coming year, read this one. There was a movie based on this book starring Pierce Brosnan. The movie DOES NOT do this book justice. A scary, creepy, emotional story of small town secrets, lies and power only King could make work. I stayed up till 3am on most nights unable to stop listening. Narrated by King himself, made listening for me, all the more enjoyable. Again... A. MUST. READ.
