Publisher's summary

Even four years after the sudden death of his wife, best selling novelist Mike Noonan can't stop grieving, nor can he return to his writing. Now his nights are plagued by vivid nightmares of the house by the lake. Despite these dreams, or perhaps because of them, he decides to return to Sara Laughs, the Noonans' isolated summer home. In his beloved Yankee town, he finds himself falling in love with a widowed young mother, who struggles to keep custody of her 3-year-old daughter. He is also drawn into the mystery of Sara Laughs, now the site of ghostly visitations, ever-escalating nightmares, and the sudden recovery of his writing ability. What are the forces that have been unleashed here - and what do they want of Mike Noonan?

Stephen King Narrates!

What did you love best about Bag of Bones?

I love it when the author is the one narrating the book. That is especially true when that author is Stephen King! He has a great voice to begin with, but when you put these characters from Maine into his mouth, they come alive in a way that you can really count on someone who's spent most of his life in Maine to do it. As with most Stephen King stories, there's a point where a person is smarter than I think the details of the story should allow, but all in all, this is an interesting book with a nice supernatural tie-in as well as (as always) new insights into the writer's world that King has managed to avoid including in any of his many, earlier novels that include writers. Unlike some of his better novels, however, when all is said and done, a year later, I have vivid images of many of the scenes of the novel, but cannot remember certain key elements of the story. There's a certain amount of complexity to this story that goes beyond stories like "The Cell" and even tomes like "The Stand". I always love what King does or tries to do, however, because he's so unafraid to try anything he dreams up. In this story, he touches on single parenthood and race relations with deftness and sensitivity.

What about Stephen King’s performance did you like?

I simply love his voice and the Maine accents!

Stephen King at his best...

Really enjoyed this one. Stephen King's narration may have put this one over the top. I mean who better to read than the author himself.

One hell of a ghost story.

Stephen King is an incredible writer, and narrator. You can tell Mike is a reflection of Mr.King, and it shows through his narration. Easily one of my new favorite Stephen King novels.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars

This book stands the test of time. It is basically 20 years old at this point, but no less enjoyable than if it were released last week.

I am late to my appreciation of Stephen King. It took audible for me to embrace his long form writing. He sets up his characters, scenes and plots like a virtuoso.

He could not have picked a better Narrater either. He does a great job from start to finish. He doesn’t over emote and his variations and pacing are on point.

Finally, I love it when they include an interview with the story. It is nice to hear them talk about details that I may have missed.

ICONIC!

I literally feel like Steven King is the Edgar Allan Poe of our time. This story was so beautifully read, and the story itself was amazing. I'd definitely listen again.

Real beeping scary...

It will be awhile before I take another bath...

I am a "constant reader" and often get on Stephen King kicks- I can't believe I hadn't visited this book yet. Really scary-and in a way that you think- man, that could happen maybe- could that happen? Are there ghosts like that? I loved the characters and will miss them and I even loved SK reading- and sometimes I don't :)

Stephen Kings writing is so descriptive and the story draws you in. Add that listening to Stephen reading of the book and you have a great audio book.

I love this book!

Probably my favorite King novel. I find the character development amazing, there are few books that when you finish the story, you are left caring about what happens to the characters. I have read it 5 or six times, first time I listened to it.
