Publisher's summary

A new master of terror reigns supreme, and in his most horrifying novel yet, the clash between good and evil explodes in an apocalyptic showdown few will survive.

From a funfest to a bloodfest….

Each year, the residents of Pine Deep host the Halloween Festival, drawing tourists and celebrities from across the country to enjoy the deliciously creepy fun. Those who visit the small Pennsylvania town are out for a good time, but those who live there are desperately trying to survive.

For a monstrous evil lives among them, a savage presence whose malicious power has grown too powerful even for death to hold it back. Only a handful of brave souls stand against the King of the Dead and a red wave of destruction. Daylight is fading, and a bad moon is rising over Pine Deep. Keep watching the shadows.

Jonathan Maberry is the multiple Bram Stoker Award–winning author of Ghost Road Blues, the first of a trilogy of thrillers with a supernatural bite. A professional writer and writing teacher, he has sold more than one thousand articles, seventeen nonfiction books, six novels, and two plays.

Very Entertaining

Good storyline. Very good character development. Nicely narrated. Good read.

However, it is a bit predictable at times and then at other times it goes way too far into the details of intimacy between two of the main characters. The sort of mushy stuff I just don't like but others may.

More than anything I was very entertained and it kept me coming back everytime I had a free moment to listen.

Bad Moon Rising

The Pine Trilogy consists of three novels, Ghost Road Blues, Dead Man's Song, and Bad Moon Rising. This review addresses all three. In unabridged audiobook format, these stories are each between 15-18 hours of listening, all released in the summer/fall of 2011 by Blackstone Audio, and are narrated by Tom Weiner.

Plot. The Pine Trilogy takes place in modern-day Pine Deep, a rural town with a local claim to fame of being haunted with zombies, werewolves, and sundry ghouls of the night. Folks travel far and wide to visit the town, the souvenir shops of bloody fangs, dead rats, scary masks, or take a ride on a haunted trail in a haywagon. Halloween is a huge draw. No secrets to give away, but ... it is bereft of legends and the bad guys are real. The town fights back through a never-ending, bloody mess. If you're into the macabre, drooling, blood drizzling down walls or your shirt front, shooting with abandon even at ghoulish children, cockroaches and slugs falling out of eyes or ..... well, enjoy.

Liked. The storyline is good. We're dealing with creepy characters and good guys. To get the most from the series, start with the first book, Ghost Road Blues, as the characters and story traverse all three books. It's a horror story, hide behind the sofa, leave the lights on terror. Book three is the best, the story and writing improve. The narration is fine, no issues. Nice research into the mythology of werewolves, vampires, et al.

Not so hot. There is grizzly and brutal abuse throughout. Children become ghouls/zombies and get blown to smithereens as do hundreds of people. Women are sexually brutalized and beaten. A teenaged boy is particularly victimized. Some characters you begin to like are turned into heinous vampires, etc.

Recommend for lovers of horror stories and the stomachs to handle some extraordinarily gruesome scenes.

Great finish!!

By the end of the 1st book I was appalled that it was written(not realizing it was the beginning of a trilogy), I was left hurt and upset that such a good book had the worst cliffhanger ever! But immediately saw and download the rest of the trilogy! And oh goodness this last book was hardcore! Great story and character development, narration was wonderful to listen too and the it was just a good listen! On to the short stories of Pine Deep!

Good story that keeps moving

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend. The story which is all three books, moves along. The reader does a good job of voices and gets you into the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hard to say. Vic Wingate was portrayed greatly as someone you want to hate...

What does Tom Weiner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voices made you feel the character's emotions.

If you could rename Bad Moon Rising, what would you call it?

Hell night has cometh.

great story!!!!

this book series is a lot of fun. if you are a fan of urban fantasy elements in a true horror story (rest assure its not urban fantasy only elements of it) this is a great read. the characters while at times can be a bit cheesy in dialog are well flushed out and relatable in the context they're meant to be. the good guys good and the bad guys well down right evil. the story is a bit unique and fresh in an old way. oh and the narrator dose a fantastic job. i love this series

Really enjoyed the series.

I never leave reviews but felt like I needed.
It had gotten some bad reviews the 1st book. it was a little scattered but by the end I was hooked. Did not want the series to end. Suspense, witty. I really enjoyed.

Do Yourself a Favor

I waited until after finishing this book to write a review, completing the series of three books. All I can say is wow! While this is not my first read of Jonathon Maberry works, it is my first deep foray into this genre. The series is dark and very raw at some points. But the rawness is very character driven and helps paint a broad picture and develop the story. Once I started with the first book, I could not stop until I reached the end of this one. I fully immersed myself into the feel of the town and the emotions of the characters. Definitely had some interesting dreams during the course of this series. Great author, probably my favorite. If your not familiar, I highly recommend the joe ledger series, as this storyline is sometimes referenced there too and has a vein of similarities. I really appreciate the references, particularly the music. I frequently find myself playing songs referred to or having a meal that a character has to take myself deeper into the feel. Mr Mayberry does a great job with this. Check of these books, check out the short story books by the author and also his other series. Great writing, great stories and great narrators for the audiobooks. My two cents, but I don’t think you will be disappointed
