Publisher's summary

First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes...a baby carriage? Isn’t that what all women want? Not so for Claudia Parr. And just as she gives up on finding a man who feels the same way, she meets warm, wonderful Ben. Things seem too good to be true when they fall in love and agree to buck tradition with a satisfying, child-free marriage. Then the unexpected occurs: one of them has a change of heart. One of them wants children after all.

This is the witty, heartfelt story about what happens to the perfect couple when they suddenly want different things. It’s about feeling that your life is set and then realizing that nothing is as you thought it was - and that there is no possible compromise. It’s about deciding what is most important in life, and taking chances to get it. But most of all, it’s about the things we will do - and won’t do - for love.

Unlike me but had to stop listening

The reader's voice grated on my nerves........the story skipped around too much and did not make much sense. I LOVE my audio books so it is highly unusual for me to actually stop listening to one without finishing it but that is exactly what I did with this one. The cover of the book says narrated by Cynthia Nixon....NOT!!! She narrated Hear of the Matter and I loved it, this reader was awful!

Try the version read by Cynthia Nixon

Characters seem overly trite and shallow due to the flat affect of the narrator. I'd like to hear the abridged version read by Cynthia Nixon because I have been a fan of Giffin's "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue" as well as the audio version of "Heart of the Matter" read by Cynthia Nixon. Normally I prefer Unabridged audio books to abridged, but Cynthia Nixon is a talented actor and I bet it makes a big difference.

Excellent

The Best title that i have ever come across. You have to go through the entire title over and then admire the title.

Mediocre

I've liked others by this author much better. The over analysis of every single aspect of how this character is feeling about having a baby is exhausting. It's similar to disecting minute details with best friends but this character isn't your friend so you don't care as much....

Least fav of all her books, but still ok.

Story was just not as good as her others, but it is not something you want to skip over.

Not my favorite, but still very good

I chose this book because I read "Something Borrowed" and liked the idea of the plot because I was in a similar situation to the main character. The book was good and brought up a few points about conflicting child-having views that I had never thought about before.

Highly disappointing

I wasn't sure what sort of development to expect when the main character and I align on one very key life-view right from the get go and the story starts with an apparent happy ending. I was right to be worried - the "I'm going to suddenly change my mind about something as major as having kids just the keep the dude" storyline was anything but original. We couldn't just have one book where she's childless and happy, could we?
Also, unsure if the character or the writer was fat phobic, but the multiple times derogatory comments were made towards fat "NPCs" left a whole other bitter flavor... Don't even get me started oh how altogether unpleasant the main character is... She's entitled and rude, and her holier-than-thou I know best always attitude is irritating to no end.

Should be a series!!

I loved it . The story needs a second book.
The voice actress is perfect! Don’t listen to all the weird reviews.

Interesting

Interesting story, although kind of unrealistic?

The first half I didn’t care so much for the narrator. She wasn’t terrible, but there was just something about a lilt in her voice. The second half I liked her much more.

Story pretty good

I appreciated the protagonist’s struggle and all the angles presented to try to come to a resolution. The seven-year old’s questions were refreshingly real and I liked hearing how her Aunt responded. The rest of the characters seemed less dimensional, and ultimately I didn’t feel engaged in their stories.
