Atomic Lobster: A Novel

Serge is back with a bullet, torn between homicide and souvenirs. So is Coleman, torn between getting hammered and getting more hammered. Audible Editor Reviews

Raunchy, raucous, and riotously funny as narrated by Oliver Wyman, this novel is a whirlwind of over-the-top comic genius. The story features a psychopath with a twisted sense of humor, Serge A. Storms, and his dopey sidekick, Coleman. This installment turns the duo loose on a cruise ship with a pack of goofy grannies called the "G Unit" and a mysterious CIA agent in search of drugs. The sex is weird and hot, the violence outrageous and funny, so this is not for the younger set. Wyman uses every ounce of his talent for machine-gun pacing and character creation as a panoply of bizarre people parades across the blistering Florida landscape and onto a luxurious ocean liner where anything goes. Don't miss this red-hot radioactive lobster, straight from the pot.

Publisher's Summary

Why is everyone rushing to flee Tampa on a cruise ship to hell?

Serge is back with a bullet, torn between homicide and souvenirs. So is Coleman, torn between getting hammered and getting more hammered. Then there's good ol' Jim Davenport, the E-Team, the Diaz Brothers, and Johnny Vegas, the Accidental Virgin, cranking up the fevered action as the pot boils over on a street called Lobster Lane.

It's reunion time in the Sunshine State, and we're not just talking the family jamboree of that blood-soaked criminal clan, the McGraws, whose nastiest, meanest member is finally released from prison and heads south bent on revenge. On top of it all, the government is covering up a growing list of mysterious victims across Florida who may or may not be connected to a nefarious plot being hatched against national security.

But wait! There's more on the horizon! Who is the oddly familiar femme fatale named Rachael? Is Serge wrong that guns, drugs, and strippers don't mix? What sets the Non-Confrontationalists off on a rampage? What finally brings Coleman and Lenny together? Will they succeed in building the biggest bong ever? And can Serge surf a rogue wave to victory?

Batten the hatches, don the life jackets, and take cover as all these questions and more are answered in the latest adventure from the acclaimed author of Hurricane Punch.

Listen to Hurricane Punch.

    "Lots of foul language"
What disappointed you about Atomic Lobster?

I couldn't get past the constant use of the f___ word. It's constant thus I couldn't continue. I am not against an author using that word but there was just so much of it

Would you ever listen to anything by Tim Dorsey again?

I would have to read the first pages. If the language is clean I'd read it.

Would you be willing to try another one of Oliver Wyman’s performances?

    Yes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I'd say anger at the overuse of the foul language. I think he was trying to make it sould like the mafia but guess he doesn't know they don't always talk like that.

    "More rollicking fun with Serge"

The adventures of Serge, with his ADD/OCD and borderline psychopathic tendencies, have us driving around Florida again. These books make me want to rent a rent a car and follow his route. A great bit of escapism and a quick read.

    "My all time favorite???"

    This book is great.
Perhaps its because of the great reading?
Maybe because of the reappearance of Old beloved characters?
    Could be the surprise ending?
It might be the unrelenting pace?
How about the timely natural Phenomenon?

In any case, I Love This Book!

    "Another great Serge Storms book"
What did you love best about Atomic Lobster?

I've read or listened to most of the Serge Storms books, and they're all really good. While Torpedo Juice is probably the best of the lot (almost causing a massive accident due to uncontrollable laughter), every one of these books is a laugh riot and massively entertaining. In fact, I'm surprised there isn't a warning to not listen while behind the wheel. You just might crash. It's hard to control a vehicle when tears are streaming down your face from laughter.

What other book might you compare Atomic Lobster to and why?

Carl Hiaasen, Dave Barry and Tim Dorsey are all cut from the same cloth. And that's not a bad thing

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I believe there are 2 different narrators for the series, and its hard to say that one is better than the other.

"To know Serge, is to ?"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

You bet, best thing I've listened to!

What other book might you compare Atomic Lobster to and why?

None, except those in this series. You need to start at the beginning!

Have you listened to any of Oliver Wyman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Oh, yes, he's good. Great inflection in his voice, takes you on a ride, for sure

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    LAUGH

    Any additional comments?

    Love me some Serge!

    "Serge"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Make Serge's voice stronger. His voice makes him sound resistible, not irresistible as I picture him.

What three words best describe Oliver Wyman’s voice?

I liked everything except the portrayal of Serge. Otherwise, I liked him

Was Atomic Lobster worth the listening time?

    yes

    "The Characters are a Caution"
Would you consider the audio edition of Atomic Lobster to be better than the print version?

    NA

What was one of the most memorable moments of Atomic Lobster?

Not till i figured out that Serg was SERIAL.

What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?

Oliver, this guy rocks! You envision a wirey ,sawed-off ,scruffy character with mixed morality.
I liken him to Ernest T. Krebbs from The Andy Griffith Show. The guy was back-woods, cagily smart and crafty as a fox. He was Serg.

If you could take any character from Atomic Lobster out to dinner, who would it be and why?

    Rachelle.....duh!

"A train wreck is always coming w/ these characters"

Like Hiaasen, this author's formula is a bunch of people on a collision course. The people are all invariably some combination of -- insane, improperly medicated, self-medicated, greedy, stupid, and/or slime. We read knowing that the train wreck is coming. It's just when and how that keep us listening. I like Serge Storms. He is the funniest serial killer out there, usually. This one is good. Not as good as Nuclear Jellyfish, but very good. I like this narrator the best of the two that are available.

    "Storming good read"

Great book read by a narrator who really brings it to life.. The characters are all three times larger than life. Not in any way believable as real people but you care about them all the same. There are regular laugh out loud moments. It's not for the easily offended though
