Publisher's summary

It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable.

Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

Suddenly, Father Tim gets more than he bargained for. And readers get a rich, provincial comedy in which mysteries and miracles abound.

Don't miss out on the rest of Father Tim's adventures in Mitford.

beautiful

Such a sweet story about a close knit town! I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Really good character driven story.

My wife loved this book and suggested I listen to it. I enjoyed it but found the narration to be a little slow at times. I did enjoy getting to know the characters as the story followed their lives and will likely listen to the second book. (My wife is starting the third book now.) We both laughed out loud at times and really enjoyed quotes from scripture and Christians like C.S. Lewis within the dialogue.

Loved it!

I just loved the charm and wit of this book! I haven't read the print version, but it would be hard to beat the audio version. The narrator did a great job with all of the characters. I have easily listened to over 50 audio books in the last year and this is in my top two.

Heart warming, thought provoking,

Heart warming, thought provoking laughter and tears all in the story of the Mitford community. I felt like I knew them, loved them, and could identify with them in their joys, hardships, loves, and sentiments. I look forward to book two.

Heartwarming and charming!

This book came into my life at just the right time; it is exactly what I needed! Lightheartedly inspiring, reassuring to those experiencing a valley in their life. The narrator has such a calming and peaceful voice. Enjoyed the moments of humor contained within. Looking forward to continuing the journey into the town of beloved Mitford!

Enjoyed thoroughly

Such a great listen. Even wrote down some of the quotes from the book, and I keep them on my mirror to think about every day.

Uplifting

This is a delightful, G rated, small town story. The main character is an Episcopalian bachelor priest (although he would be free to marry). There is no R rated sex scenes and the dialogue is clean. The conundrums of the priest are humorous and familiar to anyone who has lived in a small town. It is NOT an exciting, nail-biting story line, but I looked forward to listening to it and to being encouraged by the story and the occasional included prayers each day.

Exactly as I imagined Father Tim’s voice!

I love this reading so much! I’ve always loved this series, but John McDonough sounds exactly like I imagine Father Tim would sound!❤️
