Publisher's summary

It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable.

Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

Suddenly, Father Tim gets more than he bargained for. And readers get a rich, provincial comedy in which mysteries and miracles abound.

Don't miss out on the rest of Father Tim's adventures in Mitford.

Maribeth Thompson

The story is wonderfully sweet and uplifting. The narration is very appropriate for the story itself. I felt genuinely transported to Mitford, which was a much needed vacation. A great read!!!

Simple, yet Profound!

I have read this book at least twice. But, I have listened to the Audio Book many, many times. Jan K has an amazing gift of writing. Its like she has a message and builds a story around it. She takes a small, simple town with ordinary folks and draws everyone of us to believing that we are part of Mitford and friends with Father Tim, Cynthia, Avis, Miss Sadie and the others. By doing so, the message becomes personal to us. The message of the hope of Jesus and the simple message to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Beginning the Mitford series again

Wonderful, sweet story that refreshes my faith journey, encouraging me to look for the good and decent while gently confronting the broken in me and others

Heart warming story

This is a beautifully told story. The characters are very realistic. Jan Karon transports the reader right into Mitford to experience the story along with the characters. I read this book, as well as most of the series, when it was first published. I think I enjoyed it even more this time than I did back in 1995. What a great story!
