K’wan delivers his bloodiest story yet.
“One bullet changed everything.”
Three years after narrowly escaping a one way trip to the gas chamber, the fugitive known only as Animal finds himself drawn back to the scene of the crime: Harlem.
Throughout his entire time in exile, the only thing that kept Animal going was the thought that he would one day be reunited with his soul mate, Gucci - but one bullet changed everything. When his enemies tried to murder Gucci, they crossed the line, so he vowed to cross them all.
While Gucci teeters between life and death, Animal sets out on a bloody mission fueled by love and orchestrated by bullets. There will be no more innocents. Alliances are formed and secrets uncovered while Animal wages his personal war on the streets of Harlem, with the end result revealing one great truth: he is only a small piece in a much larger puzzle.
About the author: K’wan is the number one Essence best-selling author of Section 8, Gutter, Still Hood, Hood Rat, Eve, Hoodlum, Street Dreams, Gangsta, Road Dawgz, and others. He has been featured in Time, New York Press, King, Big News, and on MTV.

Sturggled to finish this, as way too much time was spent setting up b stories, far to many of the characters were exactly the same, and it becomes obvious that this is an 11 hour setup to a sequel.
I will definitely recommend this book excellent story!!!!!
Animal is a gansta for real!!!!!
no I haven't but I will put Care Hite on my list.
Yes I did but I had to make it last
It you don't like...change it!
I have had this book in my wish list for a minute and I have no idea why it took me so long to finally get this book. K'wan character Animal is nothing nice and I love his thug, killer, lover, rapper personality. It's like everything you want in a bad boy! Love this story!
What I like best is that Animal is just like I said….thug, killer, lover, rapper…if I could choose to have a bad boy, Animal would be it! And the story keep me listening all day long. So happy I finally purchase this book!
Cary Hite voice has always been one of my favorites. He has the ability to bring any character to life. Love his voice!
I see why so many people enjoy this book. K'wan keep your attention during the entire book. I'm jumping right into the Animal II so I can find out what happen.
Animal and his Friends are Playing With Death and Will Get Theres in the End i Hope So
Great Audio Book
This is an awesome book! The detail of each character is so lively! Cary Hite makes each character seem so real and K'wan makes sure you are left wanting to know more about each of them. After listening to this piece I was completely hooked. Animal's passion for Gucci was animalistic to say the least. Animal's survival was epic and I wanted him to be her hero. But not only is Animal able to overcome but his friends prove to be the most loyal in the jungle streets of the city. Bravo!
Yes. I loved this book.
Very well written and even better delivery. The book is raw and gritty. It gave me insight into the life and thinking of a street thug and gang life. Kids I thought of as clueless and thoughtless I see are far more complicated. No matter our many, many differences we all share similar stuggles. In one world its banking in another it loan sharking.
I have not listened to Cary before but I am gonna look for his other readings. He was awesome. It felt like I was watching a movie instead of listening to a book. He brought each character to life. Absolutly fabulous. I've listened to hundreds of audio books over the last 10 years and Cary ( at least with this reading ) ranks with the best of the best.
I am a writer from Toronto. I am 34 and hooked on audio books.
This is a great episode of the Urban epic. Animal is an awesome character, but so are all the others. Get all of K'wan's books. They all get my stamp of approval.
I don't know - I didn't read the printed version. The audible was very well done though.
Zo-pound. He was just cool. James Bond type cool. He handled every situation with such style. And he was a good guy and a bad guy all at the same time. Great character.
Animal. Great voice acting for this character.
My only complaint about this audio book is that there were too many characters. I would have enjoyed it better in written form because I could go back and remind myself who each person was. But in audio form it was a little annoying because I found it hard to keep track of who was who, especially because I listen in my car over a few days times so it's not a straight-shot listen. I would definitely read more of K'Wan's books. What a fantastic and unique literary voice. I'm bummed that I didn't realize that this was a book in a series. Now that I know there's a series I'll go back and start from the beginning!
