Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town, a media punch line, and the defendant in Mike's defamation lawsuit.
Her seemingly perfect life up in flames, Lacey retreats to her family's lakeside cabin, only to encounter an aggravating neighbor named Monroe. A hunky crime novelist with a low tolerance for drama, Monroe is not thrilled about a newly divorced woman moving in next door. But with time, beer, and a screen door to the nose, a cautious friendship develops into something infinitely more satisfying.
Lacey has to make a decision about her long-term living arrangements, though. Should she take a job writing caustic divorce newsletters for paying clients, or move on with her own life, pursuing more literary aspirations? Can she find happiness with a man who tells her what he thinks and not what she wants to hear? And will she ever be able to resist saying one... last... thing?

"Harper brings her trademark humor and biting social comedy to this hilarious tale of heartbreak and romance, a novel that should be on the summer reading list of every woman who has been wronged." (Booklist)
There was plenty of humor to offset the seriousness.
The main character was, of course, my favorite. She was funny and down to earth. Listening to her struggle while she kept her sense of humor was entertaining. Ms. Harper can make her characters shine.
When listening to the book, you believe that the reader is the main character. Some times when I read rather than listen I might not put the same spin on the dialog as Ms. Ronconi does.
I laughed a lot.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Have gotten other Harper books since listening to this one.
Love fantasy books, usually with a strong female character. I also enjoyed just about anything from J.D Robb I am a fan of mysteries as well. I also enjoy funny and quirky novels anything from Molly Harper is a winner in my book. Since listening to audio books is important to me while I travel I also follow certain narrators as well.
This is nothing like Molly's typical books, but it stand alone well. I loved it so much, I bought it for a friend who is having difficulty at home. The truth is if you are a women, and you have ever wanted to get back at a man who wronged you this is for you. Not only will you laugh the entire time, and out loud, but you will see its just not worth your energy in the end to stay mad or angry or think of revenge, someone out there is perfect for you, so laugh along with me and then feel refreshed and go find you soul mate. You will be glad you did. I still listen to this from time to time when my soul mate makes me angry, its a great relief and so funny I cant help but forget why I was angry.
From the first spoken word the book hooked you, and there were so many laugh out loud moments that it was thouroughly enjoyable. I recommended it to several friends.
Avid audible reader!
Molly Harper does a great job with humor and this book is no exception. She took an ordinary experience and made me sympathetic at once with the main character. She didn't let us wallow in sympathy but, made us see the humor in her situation. Her characterizations are good and the entire cast of characters are people you could relate to. I had an English teacher who always told us that you could tell a good book if it stood up to being read aloud. This is one of those books.
I would have to say the end of the book was my favorite. Lacey grows up and understands that you can't survive on vengeance.
The slightly tipsy flower lady.
I wouldn't rename the book. The title is perfect.
First off if you enjoy a good laugh then Molly Harper would fit the bill... her writing is hilarious with a good story line. The plot moves along at a good pace and has a good number of "OMG no way" laugh until you cry moments. This is the 3rd book of hers I have read and each one seems to be as good as the first. Would definitely recommend her to anyone. I listened to this as an Audible but I am getting the hard copy for a couple of friends who are too old school to listen to or get a kindle lol. The narrator has done great with each book.
The e-mail sent by Lacy Terwilliger. I doubt that there is a person out there that hasn't fantasized about sending just such a letter.
Amanda Ronconi is a wonderful listen. This performance is as good as any other she's done. If I'm dithering on a selection, seeing her as the narrator will certainly tip the scales towards purchase.
Molly Harper uses great wit, sarcasm and one liners to deal with a difficult situation -finding out after everyone else in town already knows that your husband has been having an affair while you've given up your life to be the wife he expects.
But she doesn't do it in a sad, self-pitying way -she goes for him publicly using her entertaining wit through the newsletter he has her write to his clients each month. And in a small town, it opens all kinds of talk. I have felt everything she felt and it was like my words finally being expressed.
She decides to escape to the house left to her by her grandmother on the lake and meets a reclusive writer. After several hysterical embarrassing moments, they finally become friends and being a journalism major herself, she decides to write a horror novel where the house that she and her cheating ex-husband shared eats him.
Her mother and brother are perfect complements to her part. All in all, the characters are believable, funny and you ride the roller coaster of the ups and downs of divorce with her.
So funny, couldnt stop listening
Just very funny
Everything...she makes the book
Yes, absolutely. Definitely very hard to put down
The things I know for sure I am are: Christian, Wife, Mother, Daughter, Granddaughter, Sister, American, Patriot, Friend, Teacher, Student, Seeker, and Thinker. I am far from perfect but I do try to be kind, honest, honorable, trusting and trustworthy. Lover of sunshine, books, southern food, vacations in national parks, singing in my car, cookie dough and icing, and cucumber margaritas.
Top 5 of this genre! Possibly top 15 overall.
I really loved when her mother-in-law comes to see her at her mothers house after she sends out the emailed newsletter.
I loved all of them, but the mens voices tended to sound the same. It was still great narration though!
It made me proud of her! As usual, when the book ended I felt like I had lost a friend.
If you are going through the drama of having a cheating spouse this book is for you. Download it, listen to it all the way through and let go of your own drama for a few hours like I did. It is a nice distraction to the obsession that follows infidelity.
