Publisher's summary

An Irish Country Wedding is another heart-warming addition to New York Times bestselling author Patrick Taylor's Irish Country series.

Love is in the air in the colourful Ulster village of Ballybucklebo, where Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly has finally proposed to the darling of his youth, Kitty O'Hallorhan. There's a wedding to be planned, but before O'Reilly can make it to the altar, he and his young colleague, Barry Laverty, M.B., must deal with the usual round of eccentric patients—and crises both large and small.

Being a G.P. in a place like Ballybucklebo often means more than simply splinting broken bones and tending to aches and pains. It can also mean helping a struggling young couple acquire their first home, clearing the name of a cat accused of preying on a neighbor's prize pigeons, and encouraging a bright working-class girl who dreams of someday becoming a doctor herself. And, if you're Barry Laverty, still smarting from a painful breakup, there might even be a chance for a new romance with a lovely school teacher, if her passionate political convictions don't get in the way.

Much has changed in Ballybucklebo, and bigger changes are in store, but the lives and practices of these Irish country doctors remain as captivating and irresistible as ever.

A Lovely Heart Warming Story

What did you love best about An Irish Country Wedding?

As always these books are heart warming. Finally Dr. O'Reilly is married and the prospects look good for Kinky.

What did you like best about this story?

The entire story line, the characterizations, as you listen you can actually picture them in all in your mind.

What does John Keating bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The wonderful Irish accent he brings to the reading of the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The last chapter as Barry reminisces about his year spent in Ballybucklebeau. I hope this is not the last book.

Any additional comments?

I certainly hope this is not the last book.

Fingal is my Hero!

This is the sixth book in the series l've listened to, out of sequence, but so far it's my favorite. I want to meet every person in these magical books. Dr Taylor has made each character come to life, along with the mystical land of Ballybucklebo. I'm of Irish decent, and have a medical background. The illness, traumas, births and obscure medical conditions are well explained. I learned some home remedies for a few things, too. Mostly, I marvel at the constant caring of the Big guy himself, Dr Fingal Flaherty O'Reilly. A true hero of a man, both personally and professionally. He is a man who rights the wrongs of his world. No wonder he is so loved and respected by all who know him, even Bertie Bishop has to give Dr O'Reilly a pat on the back now and then. I live for the laugh-out-loud segments. They are priceless vignettes. I truly hope you will give the Country Doctor series a try. Meet Fongal, Barry, Kinky, and the whole crew. You won't be disappointed, sooo.

A pleasant diversion

I have enjoyed the "Irish Country..." series for their sweet, uncomplicated stories. They are both historical fiction and medical history, set in Northern Ireland in what seems like a "time of innocence" (if Ireland can ever be said to have had such a time.) This latest one was, however, rather long on details and short on story. There was rather too much introspection for my tastes - more so that in the previous novels in the series. I found it distracting. Having said that, the familiar characters of Dr. O'Reilly, Dr. Flaherty, Kinky Kincaid and the other denizens of Ballybucklebo in Northern Ireland are all there, comfortable as old shoes and familiar as the back of your hand.

John Keating does an excellent job with these books; he may be among my favorite narrators.

All in all, the place and characters are familiar to fans of this series, but there are some surprises as well and just enough humor and pathos to remind you why this series is such a delight.

Awesome as usual

I love this whole series. I hope this is not the end. The writing is descriptive, with out being overly so. The characters are comfortable old friends. I love catching up with the going ons in Bally-Buckle-Bo. And wish I were there saying "hows about ya" Makes me miss Ireland. If you have not read/ heard any of the other books- go start at the beginning, you will not be sorry.

One of this Series' Best!

What did you love best about An Irish Country Wedding?

The plot development was interesting and the settings were exciting.

What other book might you compare An Irish Country Wedding to and why?

Like the other books in this series, it is light reading with likable characters, an interesting plot and a great slice of Northern Ireland culture that doesn't get bogged down in The Troubles.

Have you listened to any of John Keating’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is a good as any of Keating's other treatments of the Irish Country series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It being light faire, nothing moved me to tears. However when certain plot lines are resolved, particularly in Barry's love life, they are quite rewarding.

Any additional comments?

I love the Northern Irish colloquialisms.

Another great book!

Love the continuing story of the characters of this series. The language was much better in this book so it made it truly enjoyable. The narrator was once again amazing!

I really like this series!

I have read all of the Irish Country series, and have enjoyed each one. No, they are not great literature, but each one makes you feel like you are right there in this little Northern Ireland town in the 1960's.

As I have spent several weeks right in that area, and know how beautiful and delightful a place it is, I feel like I've gone back for a visit each time I read another installment. Taylor makes the characters believable and it is also interesting to see where medicine was at that time, compared to now. Sometimes I wish there were still more doctors who used common sense and could know their patients as the two doctors in these books did.

John Keating is a fave of mine. I gave these 4 stars, but would really give them more of a 4.3 or so. I needed a chill out book last week, and this was perfect. Keating brings the characters to life, and that makes this and all the series more fun than just reading them conventionally.

Pure delight

Didn't want this book to end. But please don't read it without first reading the others in the series.

Delightful narrator, lovely Irish accents (I didn't realise how many Australian expressions were from the many Irish settlers). Humane, friendly, heartwarming. Medically informed. Escaping into the small village of Ballybucklebo where people genuinely care for each other. Wonderful characters. Highly recommended.

A masterful yarn.

Learning is an incredible narrator. Mr. Taylor is a superb story teller. The lives of Fingal, Barry and the rest are captivating. Well done.
