Very well done!

While very long (and addictive) this novel is wonderfully inspiring. Be prepared to spend lengths of your time with it. Francine Rivers does a great job developing her characters in the historical context of the early Christians in Rome and all of these stories are thought provoking. It's scary how the Roman society (as portrayed here) devolved into something similar to our society today! I'm not sure how historically accurate they might be, but I would like to think they are....
I wanted to particularly mention the narrator- he does a fabulous job differentiating the characters by voice, being consistent throughout which is very helpful considering the variety of males and females who hold conversations in the story.

Among the best books ever, Christian or otherwise.

This is the 2nd in a series of 3 books and the 1st is just as good. While this book is full of Christian values and morals, it is far from being free of violence. The author uses the main character (the slave girl, Hadassah) to teach some of the best and most in-depth lessons I have ever seen on how and why to be humble, meek, forgiving, and loving -- in short, how and why to be a true Christian. Christianity aside, these books will compare favorably with any in terms of action, adventure, suspense, and characters you really know and care about. The narration is excellent. 5 stars.

Awesome sequel..

I just couldn't keep my excitement when I saw that the "Voice in the Wind" has a sequel. "An Echo in the Darkness" had been more than very satisfying and awesome. Once again Francine Rivers had done a great job captivating a reader and a listener.

AWESOME!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It totally captivated me and I became addictive. I got up in the morning listening to it and all through out the day. I really loved the narrator, he did an excellent job. I have fallen in love with Mrs. River's writings. I love the way her books are so detailed. You get to know each character. Her books have such a biblical meaning and a lesson for each reader. When reading the Bible you never think about the lives of the other people who the book was not about. I just love it. I am in the process of reading every book she has written. Thank you Mrs. Rivers.

Historical Story of Faith & Roman Empire

Debauchery, love of self, total indulgence to every desire . . . that was what ancient Rome was all about . . . abortion, homosexuality, promiscuity, gladiators, divorce, gods of every sort, and a lust for money like no other time in history . . . and all of the disease that comes with it . . . physical, mental and most of all spiritual . . . a year after Marcus believes that Hadassah has been killed by the lions, he is still angry, eaten up by grief and estranged from his sister, Julia, who ordered the murder of her slave, Hadassah . . . but he is also changed . . . mad at this God whom his beloved worshiped, he vows to track God down and make Him explain himself . . . so he goes to Jerusalem, in search of this Jesus . . . nothing is as he expected . . . and Marcus is faced with the love of those who should have hated him, a Roman citizen . . . Hadassah, alive and finally healed, though terribly scarred from the lion's attack, has found new purpose in healing others . . . this second in the series is powerful, and just as honest and telling as the first . . . it will leave believers feeling that they are woefully falling short of the kind of Christ-like love that lives in Hadassah . . . and will shine a light to unbelievers that their is true hope in Jesus Christ . . .

first read by this author, now a big fan!

I had never listened nor read any books by a Christian writer. I just loved this series. I bought it in paperback for my mother in law. (the series) The author has a wonderful way of bringing history to life, and it is very well researched. I learned a lot also, that I did not know, and this is always a bonus to me as a reader. Wonderful!

Wow

I tend to shy away from novels written by women; however, I wanted this book these books to go on and on. My wife recommended this after reading it, and I was totally cought up in the story and charactors. These books also reminded me of my own faith and motivated me to be stronger.

Best books I've ever read

What did you love best about An Echo in the Darkness?

I say "read" because I read them first. Listening to the audio books will be my 3rd time going through the whole series.

This story is truly inspired. If you are a Christian, then you know I mean inspired by God.

If you are not religious, you can still enjoy this series for the incredible insight into the historical time period, human nature, and culture, along with a truly epic love story.

I've read a lot of books, and The Mark of the Lion series is my all-time favorite.ever. This is not an exaggeration. It is just my simple opinion.

Have you listened to any of Richard Ferrone’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not bad. I don't like the voice he uses for Hadassah, but I guess you get used to it. I still enjoyed the story immensely. I'm also pretty sure he isn't pronouncing the Greek words correctly.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Many many Many different moments in the book

Any additional comments?
