Publisher's summary

Meg Hobart has everything: A happy marriage to a handsome, successful husband, a beautiful home in Charlotte, North Carolina, and three wonderful children. But it all comes crashing down around her the day she learns that her husband, James, has been living a lie - and has brought the family to financial ruin. Penniless and homeless, the Hobarts pack up what little they still possess and leave behind their golden life for good. But it’s not the material things Meg finds herself mourning. Instead, she misses the certainty that she should remain married to James, who has betrayed her trust so thoughtlessly. Worse, she is suddenly very aware of just how spoiled her children have become.

Meg wonders what her family has really sacrificed in their pursuit of the American dream. A frightening twist of fate forces the Hobarts to take refuge with a kind Amish family in Pennsylvania, where they find themselves in a home with no computers, no cell phones, nothing the children consider fashionable or fun. Her uncooperative brood confined to the Amish world of hard work and tradition, their futures entirely uncertain, Meg fears she can never make her family whole again.

Celebrating life’s simplest but most essential values, packed with laughter and tears, this is a story of forgiveness and the power of love. You will never forget the special moment in time that is An Amish Christmas.

It was a very nice Christmas story.

Would you listen to An Amish Christmas again? Why?

I may listen to it again at Christmas. It was a nice story that I listened to while decorating.

A satisfying liottle Christmas story

Where does An Amish Christmas rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Better than average

What did you like best about this story?

It was a cozy Christmas story that wasn't all sticky and gooey with contrived romance. It was a story of family, friendship and their strengths.

Have you listened to any of Cassandra Campbell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but her narration was just perfect, not overdone, believable.

If you could take any character from An Amish Christmas out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Katharine, I'd like to pick her brain and give her a break (though she would probably refuse!)

Any additional comments?

Although the situation was slightly untenable, I was able to suspend my disbelief and enjoy a down to earth story that made me feel cozy and warm. It was a pleasant respite.

Learning How to Be

After losing everything, what is next? This is an amazing and we'll written story of a family who has lost more than everything they owned, and the unexpected path they find themselves on toward something very different. I highly recommend this wonderful book, as an experience you won't soon forget.

Good Book

I read several reviews which caused me to pause before purchasing it. But I enjoyed it. It's a good light read.. not real intense.

Decent, fun, predictable feel good story.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It is very predictable and very much stereotypes the Amish vs the non Amish.

Would you be willing to try another book from Cynthia Keller? Why or why not?

Yes. It was a nice break and didn't involve a lot of thinking. Nice to have a Christmas story.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The voices she used for the teenagers was kind of annoying.

Was An Amish Christmas worth the listening time?

Yes. I was looking for a feel good book that didn't involve a lot of thinking and that is exactly what this was.

Feel good book!

Really enjoyed this book, got into the characters, wanted to give those kids a good spanking! A very warm and heart touching story. Made my house chores go by so quickly I didn't realize I was having to work!
