Publisher's summary

Agincourt is classic Cornwell...[with] attention to historical detail, well-paced action, and descriptive writing that is a pleasure to read." (Boston Globe)

Bernard Cornwell, the New York Times best-selling "reigning king of historical fiction" (USA Today), tackles his most thrilling, rich, and enthralling subject yet - the heroic tale of Agincourt. The epic battle immortalized by William Shakespeare in his classic Henry V is the background for this breathtaking tale of heroism, love, devotion, and duty from the legendary author of the Richard Sharpe novels and the Saxon Tales. This extraordinary adventure will captivate from minute one, proving once again and most powerfully, as author Lee Child attests, that "nobody in the world does this stuff better than Cornwell."

"Readers who haven't discovered Bernard Cornwell don't know what they are missing....He may well be the best historical novelist writing today -- and Agincourt may well be his best novel yet. (Vince Flynn, author of Extreme Measures)

Azincourt - gd it good listen,

Not for the faint-of-heart language-wise, but a great read. A Cleaned up version should be just as good.
Had me Googling previous battles such as Edward III foray into Normandy and other similar battles. Enjoyed the Epilog , tied it all in. Being of Welsh origin I enjoyed the references back to the Homeland. Even learned a little bit more about Owain

I really enjoyed this book.

This is a really great book and the performance was awesome. Thr only thing that I disliked was that there are a few parts where they put loud music to emphasize the story. It made it a bit hard for me to hear the narrator.

I Couldn't Put It Down!

I love Bernard Cornwell's mixture of fiction and history - I wish I knew books like these existed when I was a kid taking boring history classes in high school (back in those days, history was always whitewashed - not a lot of detail about the scandals and tribulations of everyday life amongst the ruling classes.. except for Henry the VIII, of course..). These books always make me want to find out more about the battles being fought, as well as the reasons behind them. The description of the weapons - in this case the long bow, and its construction and use is fascinating. Naturally, the military tactics and the overall tragedy of war and its aftermath is well described in understandable terms. The character development is great, and Cornwell always shows the negative as well as the positive aspects of his heroes - nobody is ever perfect... etc, etc... I could go on and on.

Agincourt

Listening to Audible while traveling to university and back on the bus, has become a habit. While enjoying Charles Keating's lively narration, I hated to come to my stop. Most of all, on the return home, I kept listening even tho' I had stepped out of history and through my door.

Having read several accounts of the story, and have seen several teleplays on the subject, this version by Bernard Cornwell was one of the most enjoyable.

I spent so much time with Mr. Keating, I would wake up hearing his voice in the night. Truly a memorable listen.

Top-notch historical novel

A fine story with believable characters, a well-rendered historical milieu , realistic dialogue, excellent "you-are-there" battle scenes etc.

This is my first Cornwell novel and while very well-written, it is further enhanced, no doubt, by a superlative telling by a reader who gives the entire enterprise a marvelous theatrical quality.

Usually, I'm good for an hour-or-so at a time on an audible book; this one I listened to in three-hour spurts! (Good for the legs; I walk alot!) The only annoyance is a minor one: the very occasional background music which I thought to be an unnecessary distraction.

Classic Cornwell !

I've been a fan of Bernard Cornwell for a few years now, and I can say that if more high school history teachers could learn to make history as interesting as Mr. Cornwell does, then I dare say that history would not be the bane of so many high school students.

This book was able to bring a part of European history to life and show us the daily perils that the average person had to endure:hunger, disease, death at the hands of outlaws or by a church that put itself above all. And in the midst of it, this utter chaos, there were people willing to stand and deliver for what they beileve in.
