After four years abroad, artist Jonas Davenport has come home to start building his dream of owning his own art studio and gallery. But just as he's ready to put the darkness of his past behind him forever, it comes roaring back with a vengeance.
The only thing keeping ex-cop Mace Calhoun from eating his own gun after an unthinkable loss is his role in an underground syndicate that seeks to get justice for the innocent by taking the lives of the guilty. Ending the life of the young artist who committed unspeakable crimes against the most vulnerable of victims should have been the easiest thing in the world. So why can't he bring himself to pull the trigger?
After years of fighting in an endless, soul-sucking war, Navy SEAL Cole Bridgerton has come home to fight another battle - dealing with the discovery that the younger sister who ran away from home eight years earlier is lost to him forever. He needs answers and the only person who can give them to him is a young man struggling to put his life back together. But he never expected to feel something more for the haunted artist.
Cole and Mace. One lives by the rules, the other makes his own. One seeks justice through the law while the other seeks it with his gun. Two men, one light, one dark, will find themselves and each other when they're forced to stand side by side to protect Jonas from an unseen evil that will stop at nothing to silence the young artist forever.
But each man's scars run deep and even the strength of three may not be enough to save them.

Oh man this was good! I’m not usually one for dramatic suspense but this one had me HOOKED! I obviously knew Mace won’t end up killing Jonas, but the reason why wasn’t apparent for a good long while and in the meantime I kept worrying for our boys!
I loved the way all three members of this triad were equal and that virtually nothing happened without the other there. This is a true equal relationship where they all fell in love together at the same time. It’s remarkably well done.
The angst is painful and hard to read. I think Mace’s story hit me the hardest. As a parent there is NOTHING as hard to live through (or imagine) than the death of a child and Mace’s guilt in this is gut wrenching.
I appreciated the imperfect way that things ended for our guys. I liked the work around the author gave us for solving some of the trickier problems, and the way that some issues just can’t be readily fixed.
Cole’s father and his situation was a nice side story as was the leading in to the next story with Ronan. I’m already hooked and his story hasn’t even started yet! (But you can bet I’m reading it next!)
This was a wonderful book – sweet, sexy, tense, dramatic, romantic, suspenseful and sappy. Just perfect!
Joel Leslie gave us another outstanding performance. He manages to differentiate the MCs and the other guys in Mace’s group. (I love, love, loved Mav’s voice!) He does a good job with the female characters and the children as well. He has a great sense of timing and emotion and moves the story along at a good pace, too. He definitely added to the overall enjoyment of this story.
4.5 of 5 stars
Having read and loved Absolution I couldn't wait to listen to the audio version of this book! I was certainly not disappointed! Hearing the great job Joel Leslie did with the characters just made me love this story even more! Can't wait for the rest of this series to be available in audio!
This was my first Audible experience and I must say it was amazing. I had already read Absolution but was offered the chance to listen and review for free. Can't pass up on that :)
Being able to hear the voices gives another level of meaning to the story. You can just feel it more. I was not disappointed and will definitely do more audio in the future.
The title of this book says it all. Who wouldn't want to be set free from the guilt of past actions, sad memories, traumas or experiences? Sloane Kennedy manages to tell the story of three men who in their way have something to overcome and they do it while discovering love for each other. As a woman I never thought that the description of three men having sex would be so arousing! As a reader I feel I am going through the emotions of each character as they tell the story from each of their point of view. I read the book before I had a chance to listen to the story on Audible and I wasn't sure what to expect. Joel Leslie manages to give each character their own voice and I really couldn't stop until I was able to listen to the whole book in the space of 24hrs. I really cannot wait for the other books in this series to be released. Well done Sloane for the amazing writing you do and great choice of narrator for these books.
I absolutely love this book! I have read this book already but to put a voice to the characters brought it more to life for me.
The raw emotion that is felt between the characters of Jonas, Mace and Cole is so intense and I was able to feel it through the narrators voice!
Three lost souls searching for love and a way to forgive themselves of their horrible pasts come together sharing, their strengths, weakness, fears, and love!
Mace a once cop struggling with a past that has made him hard and at unable at times to see the good in people only the absolute bad.
Jonas kicked out at 14, struggled living in the streets suffered at the hands of some horrible people. Now as an adult never let's anyone close to him in fear of what they may take from him.
Cole former Navy lost his family the day his sister was brutally murder, his mother slowly died of a broken heart/illness and he lost his father to alcohol! Just wants some the pain to go away and wants to start to life again but doesn't know how!
Lies and betrayal bring these three men together but will love keep them together once the dust settles?
Reading what you love is a wonderful thing ;}
Loved this story! I listened to audio book after reading this book. Joel Leslie awesome!
This is my first time reading/listening to this author. I don't read many MMM books, but this one came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. This is the story of three broken men finding each other under really bizarre circumstances. It starts out with a really horrible case of mistaken identity between Jonas and Mas that almost leads to Mas killing Jonas. Cole is introduced as the brother of a girl Jonas sees murdered. What I really liked about this story was the way it progresses naturally. They don't just hop into bed, although there are great smexy times. They really develop their relationship while trying to unravel the mystery of who is trying to kill Jonas. Both Cole and Mas are alpha males, but it is really Jonas' love that is the glue that holds the relationship together. Each man is ready to give his life to protect Jonas and one them almost does. There is ALOT of angst surrounding the misunderstanding and lots of miscommunication; to the point I wanted to strangle Mas and Jonas. But there is also great action and romance. I really look forward to the next book.
Joel Leslie gives his usual masterful performance. Each man has a distinct voice and characterization. That so important because the story is written from all three's POVs. I really felt moved when each man told his story, especially Mas. It was heartbreaking.
I had already read the book, so I was excited to hear that there would be an audio version narrated by Joel Leslie. There are so many things I want to say about how interesting the book is, how great the narration is and how the audiobook showcases one of the better pairings of author and narrator. However, I will limit my gushings to the following:
The story of how Mace, Jonah and Cole struggling with their past and how they find each other is really, really good.
Then Joel Leslie pulls you in character by character. His performance, giving each character their own voice, is brilliant. And the love scenes.... totally worth a sleepless night or two... nuff said.
This is definitely a book and audio that will be re-read and listened to again. I am looking forward to listening to future collaborations between Ms. Kennedy and Mr Leslie and separate works.
Ms. Kennedy, thank you for the opportunity to listen to your first audiobook. It was worth the wait and looking forward to the rest of the Protectors (and the Finding series -hint, hint :) ) on audio (already have the books).
Although **I received a few copy of this audiobook from the author** I would have gotten it on my own and written the same review.
Say something about yourself!
The unique voices, along with expert delivery and pacing, made this audiobook a cut above others I've listened to in this genre. The narrator's interpretation and rendition of dialog and narrative passages was riveting and made this story hard to put down.
At the point where the three main characters came to a realization their fates were aligned in totally unexpected ways was the high point of this novel. What followed from that was engrossing, immensely sensual, and had me completely invested in them as a unit rather than as individuals.
I can't honestly pick one character above another, yet Mace's revelation about his past was especially gut-wrenching, yet, in truth, each man tread a perilous path toward recovery and healing.
What it did was fully engage me. The writing had me invested in each character as an individual at first, then later—as events unfolded—their survival as a unit became paramount.
I had read Absolution prior to listening to the audiobook. I am delighted to share how the narrator elevated an already good book into one that became even more memorable through an excellence performance.
I loved this audio the narrator really brought the story to life.I loved the book but this was even better you get to feel all the emotions of each character..I listened to it all in one sitting I just couldn't turn it off.
I loved the audio edition but nothing compares to the written story. Although, I did find the audio useful for sunbathing, I can't read on my kindle in the sun, so the audio version came in handy.
This is my first audio book that I have listened to and I loved it.
Joel has quite a calming voice and it took some getting used to, mainly because he's American and I'm English. After the first chapter I got used to it.
"Sorry Joel, no more audio from you..."
***This story may contain triggers for some listeners***
This audio book was gifted to me by the author. I'm sorry to say that although the story is OK, the narration IMHO is not. Joel Leslie's interpretation of Jonas was fine, cos that must be within his normal range of voice. His narration of Mace however...well, it sounded exactly like his attempt to voice Law Castille in Jez Morrow's 'Force of Law'...poor. Mr Leslie obviously can't narrate the imagined voices of deep, commanding 'alpha' men as he adopts a raspy, wavering, barely there tone which irritates...so why does he bother?? I didn't listen far enough into the audio book to hear what his narration of Cole was like I'm afraid.
As for the story....my Goodreads review April 2016. Have you heard the one about the gay guy, the bisexual and the straight ex Navy Seal?? No?? Well, I suggest you read this story, and prepare to suspend disbelief AND accept a humongous amount of sometimes eye-rolling drama. What could be included in the story was...insta-love, drunken parents, teen abuse, a vigilante squad, death, human trafficking...you name it, it was there BUT for all that, it was a decent enough read and I was happy that there was a HEA for the 3 stars of the story - Jonas, Mace and Cole.
Have to say this series has improved as it's progressed, but if Joel Leslie is the series narrator, I won't be listening to any more.
"Entertaining and Diverting"
I loved this story. The building relationships between Jonas, Mace and Cole is well developed. Their past haunts all of them and this pulls them together. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the speed they fell in love, but as the story went on I felt it worked well.
For me the amazing narration by Joel Leslie really pulled me into the various emotions that Jonas, Mace and Cole go through and raised it to 5 stars.
"Eye rolls aplenty!"
This audio book was entertaining, but didn’t love it. There were too many things that made me uncomfortable about the story, the issues covered, and the way they were handled.
Being an M/M/M romance/thriller, we had three MC’s, Mace, Jonas and Cole, and we got alternate chapters from each POV. The plot began as intriguing, and I was interested in Mace’s mission and Jonas, the man he was sent to kill. However, what distracted me immediately from the story was the narration of Mace’s voice. The man sounded like he’d been swilling whisky, smoking cigars and was about to cry with each word spoken. The narrator did MILES better with Jonas and Cole, but Mace’s melodrama and constant pained angst was completely annoying and hammy.
There are some very nasty subjects mentioned in this story, paedophilia, child rape, and murder, for starters. And this is my main issue with the story. The way both Cole and Mace ‘handled’ Jonas, knowing he’d been abused, made me feel really uncomfortable. For the first 60% of the story there was no sex. It was a slow burn thriller, however, both men were still physical with Jonas, as in touching him, pressing him to the wall, controlling him with their bodies. Anyone who has researched how to deal with abuse victims knows NEVER touch without the person giving permission. Mace and Cole’s behaviour came across as major triggers in my opinion. They were a little more sensitive when it came to the sex scenes, however by the time we got to M/M/M sex at 65% in the story, the plot had become so ‘soap opera’, far fetched and melodramatic that I just couldn’t take the sex scenes or their admissions of ‘I love you’ every five seconds, seriously.
The narration actually made me laugh out loud during the sex scenes, and really, I’m sure that wasn’t supposed to be the desired effect.
The M/M/M relationship was instantaneously true love, which I found completely unrealistic, seeing as Cole had said he had never even been attracted to a man before and suddenly he’s in love a two *major eye roll*.
Unfortunately, i should have gone with my gut feeling. This book was not for me.
"Great story, great performance"
I'd already read the book but when I saw that this was available on audio I couldn't resist. I'd really enjoyed the book, but as an audio addict I knew I'd enjoy having it narrated to me as I commute to and from work.
Having the characters brought to life by audio doubled my enjoyment of what is already a wonderful story.
I love the characters - they're all messed up in their own way but together they make sense.
Mace. Oh God, that voice sent shivers through me. So perfect.
I've searched out and purchased another audio by him I loved his performance that much. The only other narrator I did that for was Sean Crisden and that opened up a load of doors to author's I'd not read before so I hope this does the same!
I wish that I could - no time for that sort of luxury - but I found I couldn't wait for my next trip in the car so I could listen for 45 minutes or so.
