Publisher's summary

Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother's bedside. She's been stricken with something the old-timers call "Milk Sickness."

"My baby boy..." she whispers before dying.

Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother's fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.

When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, "henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose..." Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation.

Overall Very Good...Just missing a section

Would you try another book from Seth Grahame-Smith and/or Scott Holst?

My version on the second half of the download is missing the section where Willy dies. It jumps from the first battle of the Civil War to right after the boys death.

Boo.

Otherwise. I love the story. The imagined mixed with the fact was enthralling.

Fun Listen

A good getaway from day to day life. Fiction weaved with fact equaled a fun read for me.

Unusual Premise Excellent Execution

This is not another vampire/twilight story but an incredible mix of fiction wrapped around well researched history. I am unable to explain it better without giving away the plot but do not be surprised if you find yourself giving anyone in sunglasses a thoughtful second look.

Enjoyy

Marvelous

What made the experience of listening to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter the most enjoyable?

This is just a wonderful book. I think what cautioned me the most before I started reading what I thought I would need to detach myself from what I know of Lincoln in order to enjoy the story and was please to find out that didn't need to happen. I could actually start embracing this as a true story because it filled in with facts of Lincoln's life very well. The premise is so ridiculous and so fantastic...best book I've had in a long while.

I was always surprised by the plot twist, it kept my interest throughout the book...just marvelous. I laugh and oooed the entire book, well done.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The relationship between Lincoln and Henry...hard to pick which of the two I liked the best.

Have you listened to any of Scott Holst’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first Scott Holst book. The oration is just as wonderful as the book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I am new to audiobooks. This book makes it well worth continuing with my subscription.

Any additional comments?

I need to see what else Scott Holst is writing.

Weaving together fact and fiction

A fascinating idea -- take a well known historical figure and a current public obsession with the supernatural, and weave together to form a novel. What drove Lincoln? Why was he so anti slavery? Why was he assassinated?

Vampires.

An interesting historical fiction - with an emphasis on both "history" AND "fiction" !

Not what you might expect...

I have to admit that if it hadn't been for the free excerpt, I may not have chosen to listen to this(.Even though I have Pride, Prejudice and Zombies (same author), I haven't read it yet.Now I will.)

The way fact and fiction were merged together to tell the story was very well done. At many times I felt like I was listening to an actual biography. The characters came to life, as did the dead ones. Very graphic in parts, but it would have needed to be. Sugar coating it would have taken away from the story.

Of course, if it were real, it would explain the state of politics today, wouldn't it?

500X Better than the Movie

Hands down this is one of my favorite audiobooks. The author did a masterful job of interweaving fact and fantasy to create a almost plausible alternate history. I've listened to this four times now and I'm not prone to re-listening or rereading books.
