Publisher's summary

Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother's bedside. She's been stricken with something the old-timers call "Milk Sickness."

"My baby boy..." she whispers before dying.

Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother's fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.

When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, "henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose..." Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation.

Pretty Good !!!

I put off buying this book for quite sometime because I just couldn't imagine how they could write something like this on Lincoln. It was recommended to me so I thought what the heck. As it turned out it was just pure entertainment with quite a bit of factual info. I've always liked vampire stories and was well done. The reader leaves something to be desired. I would recommend it to people who enjoy this type of story. A true history buff, well, I don't think they would be amused.

Brilliant

If you could sum up Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in three words, what would they be?

I love it!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Abe, it makes me smile to think of him written this way.

If you could take any character from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Abe, to pick his brain and hear his thoughts come out of his mouth.

A great twist to a vampire tale!

Excellent mesh of history and vampire lore! The plot is clever, and quite captivating. I thoroughly enjoyed this "bio" of Lincoln's exciting secret life. ; )

Didn't live up to the hype

I've heard a lot about this book so I decided to give it a try. It was OK but that's about it. The historical aspects were interesting. The performer was very good, I enjoyed listening to him. On the other hand, some of the music was distracting. In my opinion, it didn't live up to the hype.

Great Listen

I listened on a long road trip and it was really enjoyable for me. Kept me awake and interested. I tend to like non-fiction audiobooks, though I love fiction writing, and I loved the way this was fiction written like non-fiction. It was perfect for me and a fun subject matter mixed with some accurate historical information. Definitely a book I would not have enjoyed reading but thoroughly enjoyed listening to.

Wow! Loved it!

Would you consider the audio edition of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to be better than the print version?

Excellently read... don't see how reading it could have been better.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved, loved, loved how the vampire hunter fiction was interwoven with the real life accounts of our beloved president's real life. It was both real and surreal at the same time. I'm glad Lincoln's life was well researched... it showed.

Have you listened to any of Scott Holst’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have never heard any of Scott Holst's performances...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laughed out loud... felt the history in others.

Any additional comments?

Excellent book... excellent audio book!

Overall Very Good...Just missing a section

Would you try another book from Seth Grahame-Smith and/or Scott Holst?

My version on the second half of the download is missing the section where Willy dies. It jumps from the first battle of the Civil War to right after the boys death.

Boo.

Otherwise. I love the story. The imagined mixed with the fact was enthralling.
