Publisher's summary

Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother's bedside. She's been stricken with something the old-timers call "Milk Sickness."

"My baby boy..." she whispers before dying.

Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother's fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.

When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, "henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose..." Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation.

Not So Much

I did enjoy the story, or biography, I should say and the author did a good job of blending fact with fiction. However; the vampires played a small part in the whole story and I felt let down by that. Mr. Lincoln's life was very interesting so I did not have trouble listening, as I said the author did a good job. I believe it was just not what I expected, but it cured my curiosity and I won't be venturing down this path again.

unique, deeply researched, imaginative

Where does Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

it ranks in the top 10 without a doubt. The fact that this book makes you question the reality you know, taking researched details of one of Americas most influential Men with all the Many Works covering every aspect of his life and making Abe Lincoln into a Vampire Killer flinging axs is quite Amazing! If you have any sort of imagination you will not be able to help yourself but question everything you've ever heard or Thought You Knew about Abraham Lincoln, The Civil War, The world we live in!,

What was one of the most memorable moments of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?

To not be a spoiler I will not name one, the also are to many to name.

Which scene was your favorite?

Again I don't do spoilers! But promise this story keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting more more more

If you could take any character from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Abe Lincoln of course! The man has seen and done it all! And to be honest dinner with Abe may just be a possibility! Abe if you read this Call me brother!

Any additional comments?

Hats off to you Mr. Grahame Smith! I'm sure there had to be a lot of nervous doubters when you pitched this story But my man did you ever pull it off! Thank You

very entertaining

What made the experience of listening to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter the most enjoyable?

the way the writer weaved actual historical events into the story

Who was your favorite character and why?

Abe

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed the book. I have a set amount of time I can listen and was always excited to turn it on. I was a little disappointed by the end but would still recommend it to my friends. I won't say why because I don't want to ruin it for you but it didn't end like I thought it would.

Cool Idea... But a little dry

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes, but with the warning that it's a little dryer then one might expect.

Was Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter worth the listening time?

Yes. Again the idea behind the story was a very cool one, however this is only a one listen book. No repeats.

Any additional comments?

I do like that there was no overly grafic sex scenes or anything like that, but it just had the potential to be so much more.

Entertaining and not what I was expecting

Expecting a slow moving story, I have been putting this book off for quite some time before deciding to give it a try as nearly all the reviews are positive. I was pleasantly surprised to find the story moved forward at a clipped pace and delivered a fantastic and nearly believable alternative history to the civil war era that left me well entertained!

Great concept, poor execution

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The concept and story of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter caught my attention; I wish that the author's writing style (mock biography meets journal excerpts?) could have held it. The style was dry at times and I found myself tuning out frequently and would have to replay sections after realizing that I no longer knew what was happening in the story (a rare occurrence with other works). I also found that Seth's shifting point-of-view in the book to be inconsistent and thus hard to follow. It seemed that he shifted POV out of convenience (from what perspective is it easiest and fastest to tell the story) rather than to make an effort to fill in the blanks.

Was Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter worth the listening time?

A new side of "Honest Abe"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book is an entertaining and exciting new twist on a great historical figure! The author has an outtake on Abe that youve never even considered, from Lincoln's everyday wear to his political speeches.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?

I loved the story that Abe's father tells him about his fathers death. This kicks off Abes journey into the world of Vampires.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to keep going with this audiobook! I listen while I am at work and one day just wasnt enough!

Meh

the story was fun. There was too much history between the good bits. It comes off as stuffy.
