Among the best.
It was just a good overall light read.
No but it was an enjoyable read.
Its an weird thing but my favourite genre to read is murder/mystery books but when it comes to audio books, I love ChicLit! Odd I know!
Jill Mansell books are always a sure bet - this one in particular.
After Lara's mother died, her father took up with another woman and married her. Neither are nice people and eventually, Lara is thrown out of the house at aged 16.
She lives with her Aunt for many years and eventually returns "home" upon the death of her father. She discovers she has inherited her family home and decides to move in and get a job.
Switch to her old boyfriend, Flynn, single & handsome and wants to pick up where they left off years ago.
On top of this, there is Lara's teenage daughter ......
Then there is Harry, Lara's friend who owns an old fashion clothing store with troubles of his own - ie in the form of a popular rap star (sounds odd but really works) who is filming his own reality show.
Then there is Lara's best friend, Evie who is about to get married but everything begins to fall apart.
This is such a good book with beautiful charaters. Its a must to read.
"Life is not long enough"
I didn't get the sense that anything was going to happen in this book that would surprise, amaze or amuse me and after enduring the first 9 chapters I gave up. I also found the Cumbrian accents with a very distinct Geordie lilt very distracting.
"Such a dreary waste of time."
A few humorous bits in this book have made it just about bearable - Does life have so many soft and romance struck women in it?? I really have found this book tedious in the extreme. The characters are weak and not true to life, and not particularly likeable. The only reason I give it a second star is because I have read it to the end - so something made me 'hang on'.
I felt the story line was also sadly lacking in believability - and boring in the extreme. I shall avoid this author in future - not my scene at all.
loved this book. yet another good read by Jill Mansel and willow Nash narrates it very well.
a good listen
all other Jill Mansel titles, if you like one of her book you'll like them all
no I tend to read by author not reader
things never turn out the way you expected
a really good listen, enjoyed this as much as her other books. I listen to these books on the car travelling to and from work to make a boring journey more interesting. as a look very of easy listening check lit, this is one of my favourites. a must listen for any fan.
"A difficult one to rate!"
The character of Gigi was written very badly and unfortunately, she was one of the main characters. She was said to be a highly intelligent 18-year-old, when in fact she was written like an exuberant, naive 11-year-old. Every time she popped-up, I cringed and waited for it to be over (very distracting)! If this character had been drawn better, this would have been at least a 4* read for me. The rest of the characters were great, likeable, interesting and not as predictable as is often the case in this genre.
"Nice story, easy listening but lacked something"
I really did enjoy this book. It was quite well written and the characters were interesting. My main negative is the reader... I am a Cumbrian and the accents were pretty awful! I can understand that some accents sound very similar but we don't sound much like Geordie's. Also, the pronunciation of some of the names of the mountains was very strange - Skiddaw in particular!
All in all though, it was an easy listening book with a nice storyline. But I think more needed to be done to research the accents and pronunciations.
"Good book but wrong person reading!"
The person reading this sounds like she has a cold!
WHY has people from the Lake District got Newcastle accents? And the Bath accents make them all sound backwards!
Jill Mansell does write good books, I would recommend them all (but not read by this person)
I hope this helps.
I really enjoyed this and have brought many of her books since very good, worth a read :)
