Publisher's summary

With the same incomparable style and warm, inviting voice that have made her beloved by millions of people far and wide, New York Times bestselling author Fannie Flagg has written an enchanting Christmas story of faith and hope for all ages that is sure to become a classic. Deep in the southernmost part of Alabama, along the banks of a lazy winding river, lies the sleepy little community known as Lost River, a place that time itself seems to have forgotten. After a startling diagnosis from his doctor, Oswald T. Campbell leaves behind the cold and damp of the oncoming Chicago winter to spend what he believes will be his last Christmas in the warm and welcoming town of Lost River. There he meets the postman who delivers mail by boat, the store owner who nurses a broken heart, the ladies of the Mystic Order of the Royal Polka Dots Secret Society, who do clandestine good works. And he meets a little redbird named Jack, who is at the center of this tale of a magical Christmas when something so amazing happened that those who witnessed it have never forgotten it. Once you experience the wonder, you too will never forget A Redbird Christmas.

Heartwarming story

This is the first Fannie Flagg book I've ever read or listened to, and I was delightfully surprised. The author's delivery was perfect for the heartwarming story. A great listen!

Charming escape

This is not only the first Fannie Flagg story I have listened to, it is also the first fiction story I have purchased from Audible. I needed a break from the dry non-fiction I so enjoy (currently listening to The Fabric of the Cosmos by Brian Greene).
The story was true to the other reviews I read. It was charming, light and even though somewhat predicatable, it way the easy listen I needed. I would highly recommend this audiobook to anyone needing a relaxing escape!

A Christmas tradition

Love this ultra simple and touching story about small time life and Christmas. Will listen each and every year. Fannie Flagg is truly a wonderful storyteller and I could not imagine anyone else reading her books but her.

Great Southern Storytelling

My husband and I listened to this book a few years ago on a trip from Alabama to Virginia, and we both loved it. It is my favorite Christmas audio book. The folks are funny, they grow on you, they care about each other, and they all have their quirks . . . you will find yourself hoping and rooting for them as you listen.

somewhat disappointing

This story was highly recommended by a friend (she had read it and not listened to the recording). I was a little disappointed and I think it was largely due to the narration of the story. It was a very touching story, but just didn't seem to come to life like so many other books I have listened to. I really think the author's voice was just too flat and didn't do justice to the characters. I probably won't choose another Fannie Flagg audible unless the narrator is someone different.

Nothing Special

Predictable and trite. While there are some feel good feelings here, it's very easy to predict everything that will happen and it is over the top at times. There are also some glaring gaps in the logic of the story too. There are better books out there.

Cute and light

This is light reading that is fun to listen too, especially during the holiday season. It is a "feel good" story that won't win any literary awards but does a good job of keeping you entertained. I enjoyed it!
