A family. A firm. A lifetime of secrets. The irresistible new novel from the No 1 bestselling Penny Vincenzi. The Original and The Best.
The House of Farrell - home of The Cream, an iconic face product that has seen women flocking to its bijoux flagship store in the Berkeley Arcade since 1953.
At Farrell, you can rely on the personal touch. The legendary Athina Farrell remains the company's figurehead and in her kingdom at the Berkeley Arcade, Florence Hamilton plies their cosmetics with the utmost discretion. She is sales advisor - and holder of secrets - extraordinaire. But of course the world of cosmetics is changing and the once glorious House of Farrell is now in decline, its customers tempted away by more fashionable brands.
Enter Bianca Bailey, formidable business woman, mother of three, and someone who always gets her way. Athina and Bianca lock horns over the future of the House of Farrell but it is the past that tells its devastating tale of ambition and ego, passion and wonder.
Here is a tale of survival...and a kind of promise.

One of the best I've listened to.
Bianca. Strong woman and yet very in tune with the needs of others.
Her voice is very enjoyable to listen to and she does different characters extremely well.
Dynamic women at their best.
Give me more of Penny Vincenzi and Sandra Duncan. Perfect match.
This is an engaging story filled with an interesting variety of characters.
The clever narrator makes each voice distinctive and original, with her talented display of nuance, timing and metre.
This is an audiobook to take you away from your own world and spirit you into the intrigues of another.
"One for us ladies I think"
This author was knew to me - I liked her a lot - certainly admired her for the depth of her writing - the fine but very appropriate smaller details - amongst other things, the book also highlighted the ever spoken conflict of us ladies and our career. All the story was beautifully concluded and summarised in the Epilogue. It kept me chained to my Ipod and looking forward to the next listen - I will definitely be listening to more of Penny's books and I must congratulate the narrator - a marvellous job considering how many characters popped in and out.
"Brilliant, as always"
Totally absorbing - the characters were compelling yet human, with human faults. The plot galloped along with exactly the right amount of sideshow. I just wish it didn't take Penny Vincenzi so long to do all her faultless research and wonderful writing...
"I LOVED this story!"
Having either read or listened to all of Penny Vincenzi's books I was very pleased when this book was realeased in audio and snapped it up.
She never fails! Penny Vincenzi has the ability to mould a story with so many twists and turns, yet still manages to keep you on track and fully in the right place at the right time.
The characters in this book are so well described, so utterly recognisable that each one for me had a form, a face, a figure - I could SEE them! I knew what they looked like!
Bianca is an absolute fighter - as a working mum from when my children were babies to the youngest one getting married, I know only too well what the challenges are to a woman in management fighting for recognition in a man's world. But bianca does it! Against all the odds. What a woman!
Again, Sandra Duncan narrates beautifully - she brings the characters to life in wonderful three dimension. She perfectly compliments the excellent story.
Oh, and by the way reader - did I mention that I LOVED this story?
"Gripping and Frivilous in equal measure"
Yes - this is a long book and I've heard the print version is a bit of a heavyweight!
The detail - you can really lose yourself in this book. Despite its length there are many subplots and characters so you will not tire of it. I love the detail of the brand and the cosmetics industry.
I have not listened to another Sandra Duncan narration.
One storyline had me in utter despair so yes! I loved the character Bianca and was cheering for her throughout.
"a sweet story. .held me till the end."
I normally listen to crime or action..highly recommend this book wonderful narration. you will enjoy
"Hard work to begin with."
Slow start but got much better so stick with it. Beautifully read by the narrator. A good PV family saga.
A PERFECT heritage rates near the top among all the audio books I have listened to so far.
I like that there are constant twists and curve balls to this story and of course one again that there is a main strong heroine
Hard to say really as there were quite a few.
Yea I did have an emotional connection to this book.it made me laugh out loud in parts, but it also made me cry in others.
Yet another great read very well written.
"Moved around too much"
I liked the premise of the story, but I felt it moved around too much between the story lines. Just as thing got interesting for a set of characters, you were moved on, quite abruptly to something else. I thought too much was made of the child's school problems which detracted from the story line of the Company relaunch.
On the positive side it was well narrated very well.
Condense it to remove some of the school stuff.
No follow up as all character lines were concluded.
"ohh I love Penny Vincenzi"
Once again Ms V had me captured for the several hours it took to complete this book. She is a fantastic story teller and always ties up the character plots to great satisfaction. I was sad when I finished it. Thoroughly recommended,[probably for women rather than men]
The narrator who grew on me. At first I wasn't too sure about her voice register but grew to see she could alter it and that it was just right for the book. The story and the interwoven lives of those working at the group intrigued me. This was not a very deep and meaningful book but entertaining and a good listen.rather like a documentary glimpse into lives very different to my own.
I liked the central idea and build up to ,the launch,. I loved Florence and her long affair with Cornelius. The conflict between her work and family for Bianca would make so many women identify. Would that it was so easy to solve for all women. Still this is more fantasy and entertainment.
No others but enjoyed this.
The smell of success.
