Publisher's summary

Three years ago, Jory Harcourt changed his name and shut the door on a past full of pain, only to emerge stronger on the other side. He has a new career, a great working partner, and a satisfying life - except for the hole in his chest left behind when police Detective Sam Kage walked out with his heart.

Now Sam's back and he knows what he wants... and what he wants is Jory. Jory, who doesn't know if he can survive another breakup or losing Sam to his dangerous job, resists returning to the arms of the only man he has ever truly loved. But when a serial killer with a score to settle targets Jory, he will have to decide if love is worth the danger as he tries to solve the case and keep Sam safe.

Love Jory!!!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of A Matter of Time, Volume 2 to be better than the print version?

No! But I still love it!

What other book might you compare A Matter of Time, Volume 2 to and why?

I would not compare it to any! It's original!

Have you listened to any of Paul Morey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No...first time but he was good!

It is a great series

I’m truly enjoying the series. Great story, great characters, and you become really invested into what happens to them.

BUT at times it can be a little over the top.

Sam is the hero of all our dreams but his behavior, dialogue and protectiveness is a little too much at times. Almost to the point of a sick possessiveness that sometimes gives a creepy vibe.

Jory is a good character. But again it’s a little too over the top as it seems like everyone is Jory-Mad. Everyone loves him. Everyone worries about him. Everyone desires him. And the “Damsel in distress” theme can only be used so much before you begin to roll your eyes in annoyance. I know it’s fiction but come on........🙄.

Volume 1 I found better. But I do plan on continuing the remainder of the series.

The narrator is superb!! Great performance. 5 stars for that!

Enjoyable for the most part, but...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Perfectly enjoyable for fans of Calmes' Matter of Time series.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

What was WITH the bizarre faux-Texas accent Mr. Morey gave Dane?! I'm sorry to say, it was AWFUL. Seriously, distractingly awful. I've listened to a good portion of the other books in this series, and though I know each reader gives their own spin, none of the other titles/readers even hint at a drawl for Dane. Struck me as being very out of character - a Good Ol' Boy Dane is not. Unless there's a detail I'm not remembering from when I initially read the books?

Love it!

I've read a lot of the reviews panning this series and all I can say to those people is just shut it. You don't like it? Who cares? Don't read it or listen to it again. Most of the criticism is over "taste." I love the story of Jory and Sam and the span of years it covers. Life isn't a short run with a happily ever after. As for "relating to the characters"? Give me a break. Unless you're a gay man you can't relate so suck it up. I listen to both this and the Marshal series with Miro and Ian at least twice a year. Mary Calmes, keep up the great work and ignore the negative nancies!!

3.5 stars rounding up (for both story & narration)

This series and its editing hasn't been Paul Morey's best work but for growly Sam Kage I can forgive alot.

I'm debating between a long, ranting review or just saying how TSTL was Jory at about 90% of the story and call it a day.

Don't get me wrong. I own the audiobook since 2013 and the book since 2012. They used to be a comfort read but growing up and maturing as a reader I started noticing things that were just too unbelievable and the story started losing credit. So here I am in 2021 amazed (not in a good way) with Jory and his unique ways (not a compliment) of dealing with everyone and everything.

Sam really needed to do a lot more grovelling and not so much with the cave man but darn it all it's why we love him. Frankly the scenes together between Sam and Jory are the best thing in the story and everything else is a lot of daytime drama.

It's not you...

There was just something about this series that I just did not like and I could not put my finger on it. I read and reviewed Volume 1 (Books #1-2) giving it a three rating for the story. I just completed Volume 2 (Books #3-4) and somewhere towards the end of book 3 I figured out what it was that I was having a problem with...I do not identify with the dominate/submissive relationship between Sam and Jory. Attempting to identify with the characters allows the reader to fully enjoy the tale that is being told and I just could not. I kept saying, if I was Jory...geez the expletives that spewed forth from my mouth! Now I will say that I did enjoy book four the most. Jory's escapades and his attempt at mystery solving was rather enjoyable (if not a bit far fetched) and the conversations between Dane and Jory were rather comical. I was a bit confused that Mary Calmes did not expound on Jory and Sam's union but rather chose to end the tale with anothers wedding and petty jealousy. I have book 5 left, but I will wait a while before I read it. I need a break from Jory and Sam. I would recommend, if for no other reason than I like Mary Calmes story telling.

The best Novel that just was.

I don't remember enjoying a book this much, especially one that has a little erotic scenes as this one. The narration so clear and unrushed... The story line so perfect and easy to follow. Volume 2 was the best, especially part 1 and this is because where most writers would want to include drama and action, Marry Calmes avoided all that and just concentrated on the reunion of our leading men, this for me made the book/audio worth listening to.

I would recommend people listen or read this book as they won't regret doing so.

Narration is horrendous, story is great

I'm so glad I read this book years ago. I enjoyed it so much, I purchased the audio. Very disappointed. Narrator is droll, speaks way, way, way too slowly and pauses, sometimes for several seconds between sentences, YES SENTENCES. Sometimes even in the middle of sentences. It was truly awful. I'll never purchase a book narrated by him again.
I loved this book when I read it. Jory is a wonderful, energetic, weird person. Mary Calmes managed to bring to life a personality I've met before but could imagine quite well. Unfortunately, the narrator's voicing of Jory made him seem dull, boring and ... old. Just old. I hated it. I did listen to the whole thing but I was intensely disappointed in the narration.
