Brinkley Springs is a quiet little town. Some say the town is dying. They don't know how right they are. Five mysterious figures are about to pay a little visit to Brinkley Springs. They have existed for centuries, emerging from the shadows only to destroy, to kill. To feed. They bring with them terror and carnage, and leave death and blood in their wake. As the night wears on, Brinkley Springs will be quiet no longer. Screams will break the silence. But when the sun rises again, will there be anyone left to hear?

The gathering of crows is a brutal goring listen. The story is complete horror and thriller! Not Brian's best work but very interesting. Most people have heard the theories of the vanishing settlement with the words Croatoan the only clue left behind. Based on the true story Brian mixes in a fictional brutal version of what happened to the settlement and to the present town being rip to shreds.
Keep listening to Brian Keene
Every paperback copy of Brian Keene's work that I have read, I have loved. Every audiobook of his that I've listened to, I've struggled with. The reason seems to be the narrators that are chosen to read them.
In a previous review on one of Keene's audiobooks, I explained that that particular narrator was horribly inconsistent and made it very hard to listen to. So hard, in fact, that I still haven't managed to listen to the sequel, which is read by the same guy.
A Gathering of Crows is read by a different man, but again, I don't like him. The voices he uses for some of the women are particularly annoying and whiny, but just overall I really don't like the performance.
The performances of all of Brian Keene's audiobooks that I've listened to grate on me so much that I can't give a proper review of the work. The work doesn't stick with me, the bad narration does.
I've given this book four stars for the story simply because I suspect that it's fine beneath all that horrible narration. I will stick to paperback copies of this man's work from now on, I think. And it's such a shame, because I really do like his books.
If there were things I could change about this book I would choose two things. The first would be the endless political comments. The second would be how every female character is either a grumpy spinster or a complete moron. I'm not sure if that's what the author intended but if so, he must really not like women.
He has an amazing voice until he does a woman or a childs voice. It turns a little too nasaly and whiney. With that said, I would not object to listening to this man's voice again.
Yes, it inspired me to find another book by another author.
I'm what some folks call, "extremely average."
The narrator. The dialog too, I guess.
The premise was great... The characters, not so much.
He has a voice for narration but no natural ability -or learned ability to read aloud...he is completely robotic. And, if you can't effect a female voice -don't do one.
I love Brian Keene - this wasn't his best, but it was interesting.

A male trying to imitate female voices
Yes,even with its flaws i enjoyed it
"Exciting joy ride!"
I would recommend this book to any fan of horror. There isn't a lot of gore, but the story and the narrator really draws you in.
Levine. I have read the two previous books which introduces this character so I already liked him a little. This book gives him a starring role and it really develops his character from being just a quite interesting secondary character.
This is the first time I have heard this narrator and to be honest I did not like him to begin with. However after the first few chapters I was really impressed with him. He truly brought each character to life and unlike some other narrators he gave each character a true individual voice.
It was. I really enjoyed this novel, it ticked all the boxes for me.
