Publisher's summary

Suffering from writer's block and frustrated with his tentative relationship with hot but closeted LAPD Homicide Detective Jake Riordan, gay bookseller and mystery writer Adrien English travels to northern California where he finds a body in his front drive. By the time the sheriffs arrive the body has disappeared, and Adrien once again finds himself playing amateur sleuth. But when the game turns deadly, Adrien turns to Jake. Jake may be confused about some things, but keeping his lover alive is not one of them - no matter what the cost.

Adrien & Jake just get better

Overall Series 5th Re-Read 2019:
Adrien with an "e", what can I say that I haven't already said? Nothing really because I absolutely adore Adrien and Jake. Yes, there are multiple times I want to whack Jake upside the head but he's learning, albeit slowly sometimes but still learning. There's heartbreak, there's joy, there's murder, and well there's plenty of love(even if it takes Jake a little longer to accept).

All but the final Christmas novella is narrated by Chris Patton and his voice is perfect for these two. I couldn't imagine listening to anyone else bring life to the pair but then when I listened to So This is Christmas, read by Kale Williams, he too is . . . well for the lack of a better word(and not to sound redundant😉) . . . brilliant. Obviously there is a difference between the two narrators but since Adrien and Jake are settled, or as settled as they can be considering Adrien's knack for stumbling into mayhem, which changes people and so the difference in narrators kind of reflects that I thought. So I say spot on to all involved bringing Adrien English and Jake Riordan to life.

A wondefull follow up to Fatal Shadows

Chris Patton's narration is even better in the second book of the Adrien English series. The was a very enjoyable listen of one of my favorite series.

Adrien has grown on me

In the first of the series, I struggled with finding Adrien likable. I've changed my mind. Maybe it's his complicated relationship with Jake, maybe I can see a vulnerability that wasn't there before. Whatever, I am looking forward to the next in this series.

The story was engaging, and there was a good balance of mystery to romance ratio. I also feel like Josh Lanyon is revealing more of herself through Adrien the writer.

I'm dying to see where Adrien and Jake go with their story. It's tenuous enough that anything could happen!

Chris Patton is a gift! He's one of the best things about English.

Gay mystery

Loved every second of it. Characters that I could relate and fall in love with.

Fantastic narration, awesome mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES! I've recommended both audio and book to several friends and they've all enjoyed it. The mystery is great, i really like the setting and absolutely adore the characters. A Dangerous Thing is an all time favorite of mine, and the narration is perfect while somehow still getting better and better with each book.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked best two things: the mystery, and the character arc. One of the reasons i like this book best out of the series is that the two main characters get to spend a lot of time together, figuring things out, both personal, and mystery-wise. I love the dynamic and the sense of humor.

Have you listened to any of Chris Patton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I first listened to Chris Patton in Fatal Shadows, the first Adrien English mystery, and fell in love with his amazing voice and narration skills. He's exceeded my expectations and beyond, and he keeps getting better and better.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes! It made me laugh many many times, and also sigh happily often, and be on the edge of my seat, and more. There's no moment with no reaction in this book. Josh Lanyon's books always elicit a wide range of emotions.

A fun tale, but...

As much as I enjoyed the story and the characters, Jake is starting to grate my nerves a bit. I’m hoping that eases up in the following books. Adrian is alright, but I want more from him too.

I did notice a bit of audio skipping and repeating, so that was a little obnoxious.

Over all though, it was enjoyable.

Can't Wait To Start Book 3

I enjoyed the first book, I've only got a bit left in this book and just so I wasn't waiting, I snagged the next book! I'll admit that the author isn't as polished as some but it's that unpolished writing that I think makes the story more fulfilling. I've fallen in love with the characters and most times I have to chuckle not a joke but at the portrayal of life - those moments where you say to yourself, "yeah, I'd say that too."

Like the first book, the narration is good though the studio recording seems to feel spliced - sometimes the narrator is loud, other times soft. It's minor but probably my only real complaint.

Thanks to Amazon Prime bought entire series

Chris Patton and Josh Lanyon are the dream team . Their partnership writer , narrator makes this series so addictive, entertaining and fun.

So happy for Amazon Prime as been eyeing this series for a while now . As it's one of the most recommended MM Mystery series. But , as soon as my two audio credits a month drops , I already have tons on just released , standalones lined up.

You see, I wanted to get all 6 books the same time and binge listen. And that's what been doing since yesterday . So thanks Amazon Audible Prime.

Great Story!

I loved this story! Chris Patton did an awesome job with the narration, I found myself laughing out loud from all the little jabs and quirky conversations between Jake and Adrien with an E... Their relationship is so complicated and yet you find yourself hoping for a future for them. Another excellent chapter to the Adrien English series by Josh Lanyon. Now on to the next one, Great job!!!
