Publisher's summary

A worldwide sensation with more than 12 million copies in print, Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series has produced #1 best-selling novels and earned a fiercely devoted fan base. Another spellbinding entry in the series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes continues the saga of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century, time-traveling wife, Claire. The year is 1772, and the rift between Britain and its American colonies has put a frightening word into the minds of all concerned: revolution. In the backwoods of North Carolina, violence has already reared its ugly head, as cabins have been burned to the ground. To preserve the colony for King George III, the governor pleads with Jamie to bring the people together and restore peace. But Jamie has the privilege, although some might call it a burden, of knowing that war cannot be avoided. Claire has told him that the colonies will unite and rebel, and the result will be independence, with all British loyalists either dead or exiled. And there is an additional problem. Claire has discovered a newspaper clipping from 1776 that tells of Jamie’s death. With its epic scope, historical details, and sweeping romance, A Breath of Snow and Ashes is everything Gabaldon’s fans love and more.

Featured Article: Claire Fraser—An Outlander Character Guide

Claire Fraser is the central character, first-person narrator, and driving force of Diana Gabaldon's epic Outlander series. As ambitious and enormous as the world of Outlander is, it’s the characters and their relationships that make the story so compelling. At its heart is the love shared between Claire and Jamie, two people who ultimately would not let time or distance—even hundreds of years—keep them apart.

Enjoyed

I enjoyed this book more than some of the last couple in the series. The first half was pretty slow but it got much better in the 2nd half. One trick I have found to cut down the time of this series is to increase the reading speed to around 1.2 or 1.3. I do not notice a big difference when I do this and it can cut around 7 hours from the total time. On to the next book.

This book was in my thoughts day and night.

This book got a hold of me and wouldn't let go. The twists and turns made it infuriating (mostly because of Claire and Roger) and always unforgettable because of Jamie, Ian, and Fergus. What I like about Diana's portrayal of Jamie, Ian and Fergus is their humanity, weaknesses and strengths, they are written in such away that says, they are more honest than not; they display more insight into their behavior; they are brave and tender, honest, and shine brilliantly, like a diamond, crystal clear with flaws. Why does Claire forget how strong, how brilliant, and solid she is? Why does Diana have her struggle between the evidence of who Jamie is and the rumors of what others suggest? Eventually and finally, near the end of this book, and I can't say why, but Briana's and Roger's story turned from maddening to...hmm, isn't that's interesting. I'm ready for book seven!

nice, and goog

Firstly I have watched the Outlander Netflix series. I have liked it so much, so I decided to listen to books as well. I have listened to it on Audible. There are some differences between the book and the Netflix series. That was interesting to get to know.
In my opinion, it was narrated very well. I could hear a Scottish accent; well, that what I thought it sounded like. I am not Scottish.
Loved to the bits. I would recommend this to anyone who wants an excellent storyline to fulfil their daily lives.

I now understand why the tb series is so good

Every moment I could I listened. The series mashes up a lot but reading the book helps me understand why. I wished the series would have stayed closer to the storyline of the book. Time to listen to book 7 and continue to patiently wait for Season 6

Captivating as always

The saga continues and I was in love with it all, so many twists and turns. The attention to detail is amazing! My only ‘complaint’ is how this book was divided into sections for download, was very annoying to remember what one I was on and to have to ‘start’ a new one. I like seeing how much I’ve listened to and how much is left. There should be an option to do one or the other. I truly hope no others are like this.

Excellent performance, outstanding writing, engrossing story!

Excellent performance, outstanding writing, engrossing story. I would definitely recommend!! It’s book 6 of the big 8, but would be okay by itself too. Superior writing and clearly audible voice acting is unsurpassed. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Fabulous

The Saga continues more adventures. A history lesson like no other. Yes I have clarified the history. I have learned so much. The adventures, love, romance, sex and war. Can’t wait to read the next book this one ended with a bang.
