What if you could go back in time and change the course of history? What if the watershed moment you could change was the JFK assassination? 11.22.63, the date that Kennedy was shot - unless....
King takes his protagonist Jake Epping, a high school English teacher from Lisbon Falls, Maine, 2011, on a fascinating journey back to 1958 - from a world of mobile phones and iPods to a new world of Elvis and JFK, of Plymouth Fury cars and Lindy Hopping, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake's life - a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.
With extraordinary imaginative power, King weaves the social, political and popular culture of his baby-boom American generation into a devastating exercise in escalating suspense.

“This new epic from Stephen King rates among the best he’s written – no small praise for the man who wrote Carrie, It, The Stand and Under the Dome.” (Trucking News)

"My favourite audio book ever"
What a book and what a performance. Stephen king has researched this in massive detail and delivers a story which immediately engages you with the main characters. I thought the plot line sounded a bit strange, but the story behind it had me hooked from the beginning. Also what a performance by Craig Wasson. I am sure I will listen to this book again in the near future, would recommend highly to anyone
"Brilliant and Unique"
The combination of brilliant story and great narration made this such an enjoyable listen. I was unsure from the description whether the storyline of 'time travel' would somehow make the book less believable, and therefore less enjoyable for me, but it was marvellously told. Great detail, great humour and a great lead character all help towards this too.
Thoroughly enjoyable, and at 30 hours long it's a lot of book for your money, never gets boring. I loved it! Re-ignited my love of the work of Stephen King.
Although this is a long audio book the time never seemed to drag and I could not wait to get back to it when ever I put it down. A great idea, with wonderful characters, beautifully told by a master. My only criticism was with the end - And I must say I am often disappointed with the ends of books! - which I did not think was clever or shocking enough. But that said, I would recommend it to anyone.
Great story and well read, beautiful finish. Had a lump in my throat at the end.
"Brilliant but long"
A long book with plenty going on. Tampers with emotions and feeling and also concepts of time and the butterfly effect! Really good book, finished it in a few days as I couldn't stop playing it!
First up I want to compliment the narrator on outstanding narration it really brought the characters and story to life in such a vivid and vibrant way that kept me gripped from beginning to end the plot was fantastic classic king always delivering just what the readers/listener wants Tim and time again. However its the narrative that dose it for me with this book highly recommended
"Slightly overlong but a brilliant story"
There are times I thought this time travel story was too similar to other ones, but King limits the knowledge very well. This allows the listener to get a vivid impression of the late fifties / early sixties without feeling it was liable to be affected by the intruder willy nilly. It did seem to me very American that the solution is to kill the killer rather than stop him another way. But King does an amazing job making the reader really care about the characters and not just the task.
The story delivers! On thrill, education and entertainment! A complex weave deliciously enabled by the fantasy of time travel. I enjoyed it. Craig's performance gave vivid pictures of the character. Double money day all day!
Was transported back in time listening to this. Particularly enjoyed narration. Makes me want to hear more
"What a thought"
The whole idea and how it ended
Yes because I was going to watch From Russia With Love at the cinema and while queuing it came up in the Redifusion shop window about the assassination. Very very sad
