Story
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Story
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

Superb Reader/Actor
The Marketplace books have been a series that I have long looked forward to owning on audio. When Laura announced to her friends and fans that she had made an agreement with audible to release The Marketplace I did a dance of joy and eagerly anticipated the release.
Although anticipating the release, I have been praying that the reader/actor would do justice to this book. I have occasionally been disappointed when I have purchased the audio version of a favorite book after finding what I considered a well written book had been ruined by the audio presentation. The result was the urge to turn it off within the first couple of chapters.
Upon downloading and beginning to listen to this favorite, I was happy to hear a beautiful british accent and someone that appears to understand the nuances and this material. I look forward to hearing the other books in the series as they become available.

Interesting Story - So So Erotica
I bought this book because of the ratings and was a bit dissapointed with the book.
This book is about four people who want to be trained to be sold in "The Marketplace"
Obviously a fantasy, but...could be kind of a hot idea! The problem, I guess, was that this book tries to be very realistic while delving into a realm that is pure sexual fantasy, and I'm not sure it could make up it's mind which one it was. It was interesting enough as a story, and I liked it enough to continue. But as erotica and as a sexual fantasy, I felt like it lacked heat. So, this one was really just so-so for me. There so many scenes that were just skimmed over. If there were half stars, I would give it 3.5; because the sex part was what was sub-par for me, and also was what I bought it for--I rounded down.
The narrator did an excellent job delivering the story

A real eye opener
Any additional comments?
Wow. This was my first read regarding the BDSM lifestyle, except for the Fifty Shades trilogy, which is incredibly tame compared to this. All I can say is, be prepared for NC-17 graphic stuff here. I believe this book was well written, and having listened to it instead of reading it, I didn't get thrown by the glaring grammatical errors that many readers complained about in the print version. The narrator did a spectacular job at consistently nailing the myriad of different characters' voices, which could not have been easy. The one piece I wasn't crazy about was that this setting was somewhere in the United States (I believe), but everyone in the house had British accents. I was willing to overlook this though because, otherwise, the narration was spot on. The only thing that bothered me about this story was simply my lack of understanding as to why any human soul would crave this type of lifestyle. I cannot fathom a desire for abuse, degradation, submission, and the voluntary relinquishing of one's will. I just don't get it. And I don't mean an occasional role playing game; I mean a desire to live a completely submissive life of slavery. The incessant physical pain, shame, and humiliation that these people willingly submit to is completely mind-blowing to me. I'm not sure I would ever be able to understand why any human spirit would be drawn to this. All that being said, whether this happens in real life or not, this author had me believing it was true for these individuals. I tip my hat to her.

Delicious!
What did you like best about this story?
I've always enjoyed this series, and I am delighted to hear it with this delicious English accent! It's the perfect sound for this incredibly intriguing story. If you've never really read or listened to anything with a BDSM theme, you should know that this is more than just a kinky story. The characters are compelling, and it's incredibly funny. If all you've ever read is Fifty Shades of Gray, then hey, I have no judgment, but you should really dip your toes in these well-written waters. It's hot, AND smart! And if you are fan of BDSM themed stories, then you don't need to read this review-- you have already read all these books, because these are the best in the genre. But still, you've got to give this a listen-- the narrator's voice adds a truly tasty dimension to this favorite series of mine.

Very Excited!
Any additional comments?
Several years ago I read the entire Marketplace series. I fell in love with them. After having lost my eyesight a couple of years ago I have been hoping this book would make it to audible. A few months ago I heard it was coming! Words cannot express how excited I am to be able to experience this story once again and will be anxiously awaiting the rest of the series! Thank you!

An essential read for those into BDSM
What did you like best about this story?
This is one of the best BDSM novels available. Laura Antoniou captures the lifestyle very accurately and taps into your dreams. It's easy to get lost in this story and really feel what the characters feel.
Which character – as performed by Elizabeth Jasicki – was your favorite?
I really enjoyed her performance as Chris.
Any additional comments?

Fantastic, amusing, hot, sexy and enthralling.
Would you listen to The Marketplace again? Why?
I would listen to The Marketplace many times over. I found it captivating and just what I have been looking for.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Marketplace?
There are so many. The whole book is memorable. Sharrons auction was so well deserved and had me laughing out loud.
Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Jasicki’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I'm new to audiobooks but I feel like the narrator did a great job. Not a boring monotone like some of the other books I've listened to. I quite enjoyed the sound of her voice and the different accents and tones she used for the various characters.
Any additional comments?
An amazing book. I can't wait for audible to have the next books in the series done. The series is deffiinatly one I want in both paper and audio.

Saddle Up Beauties—And Bring a Crop
Back in the 90s— a time when S/M was still "too hot too handle in the downtown bookstore"— Laura Antoniou's The Marketplace was THE Story of O for the smart-girl BDSM set.
Don't even try to compare it to 50 Shades of Blah-- this is the real thing, both writing-wise and sexwise. A pony-girl classic!
Marketplace stands out for its characters’ depth and believability— and its feminist approach to sexual submission. (Isn’t it so much better that way?)
You'll follow the trials of four ambitious "slaves" as they undergo training in order to be accepted into the secret underground society of masters and slaves (and ponies).
Audiobook narrated by the drool-worthy British voice of Elizabeth Jasicki.
