Publisher's Summary

The long-awaited sixth installment of Laura Antoniou's Marketplace series!

When last we saw Chris Parker, he had been bought by master trainer Tetsuo Sakai and was blissfully ensconced in Japan under Tetsuo's wonderfully sadistic boot. And here we join Robin Cassidy, now contentedly serving a slave contract for a rich Chicago businessman. But the Marketplace is shaken when a new Trainer of Trainers must be anointed, and the resulting machinations and clashing loyalties threaten to tear their world apart. Everyone has a stake in the outcome, and Chris Parker is about to find out who is with him and who is against him. Richly told, interconnecting threads of Parker's previously unseen past with his complicated present, The Inheritor also weaves in the narratives of many favorite Marketplace characters, including Robin, Ken Mandarin, and Ron Avidon and features appearances by many more, including Jiro, Rachel, Michael, and Grendel.

"Is it this really the end?"
What made the experience of listening to The Inheritor the most enjoyable?

I love the six books of Laura Antoniou/s Marketplace Series. I started with the first one, and have listened to all six in the last three weeks. I was anxious to listen to this last one, The Inheritor and was enthralled with the new characters of The Donnelly Clan and their "staff" Sasha, the gay butler, and Robin's confident. After all six books by the same narrator, I am excited by her different voices for each character, and although, the only thing I'm disappointed with is that they all have English/British accents - even though some of the characters are distinctly from New York, USA.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Inheritor?

I loved the episodes of the Playhouse - and the lavish descriptions of the scenes and wished, that this was a real place.

What does Elizabeth Jasicki bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have difficulty reading with bad eyesight, and so I enjoyed the Audible experience of hearing different voices for each person in the story, instead of just having it in my head.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    We all believe.

    Any additional comments?

I certainly hope this series continues. I just got excited about meeting these new characters and the story lines that introduces you to new character and Robin's additional training, at Kaliegh, and her improvements. I'd love to see what happens to the Trainer of Trainers and their new line of trainers, clients and spotters.

"It's not just hot sex... but the sex is hot!"

Laura Antoniou has crafted The Marketplace series by making us care about people living a lifestyle other writers (ELJ) would make us see as damaged and broken and deviant. She offers no tragic back story to legitimize who they are, who they long to be and, let's face it, what turns them on. She even manages to make our protagonist so likeable, my heart sank when I realized I had been had- lol. I finished this audiobook in less than a week, barely able to make it to the end of a workday so I could hop in my car and back onto the rollercoaster of torture Chris Parker's decision had me riding. You have given me many dark circles and sleepless nights, Ms Antoniou.

Just a quick note to thank Elizabeth Jasicki for being an amazing reader. Another reader of the series commented in a review of Book One that the British accents seemed out of place for a book set in NYC and, initially, I agreed, but was a convert very quickly. Her voice interpretations seem so spot on now that I couldn't imagine Chris, Robin, Rachel, Tetso and ESPECIALLY Ken, sounding like anyone else.

I find it sad it took a Kick starter campaign to get this book published and even sadder I was not aware of it until the campaign was over. But I'm on every list out there now, hoping to help the next installment come to life. Antoniou + Jasicki =perfection!

    "Great story; horrible narrarator"

I really liked the story but was often distracted by the overly dramatic/posh sounding narration. Damn near ruined the story for me.

    "Long Live Chris Parker"
What did you love best about The Inheritor?

This was such a great ending to this story!! It wrapped up the pieces and didn't leave me frustrated. There was a lot of emotion in this book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cried in a few places in this book. Chris Parker's loyalty and the things in which he lives by were a strong focus and you could really feel his internal struggle. It was heart wrenching and anyone who lives this lifestyle can surely understand the massive range of emotion. An excellent listen and an awesome end to a great series.

    "Amazing"

Laura Antoniou is truly amazing. I really don't think there was an emotion that was not hit on. I laughed, cried, smiled and even felt angry for and with the characters. I am hoping for and looking forward to more in this series. From the first book to this one there is such a connection to the characters.

"Patience for this book did not disappoint."
What made the experience of listening to The Inheritor the most enjoyable?

The reader was great! Her timing worked in so many ways throughout the story.

What other book might you compare The Inheritor to and why?

This is the 6th, and best so far of the Marketplace series! As this is not my normal fare, I don't have anything to compare it to, as this series seems to stand alone! I got snagged by it a couple of years ago at someone else's recommendation - and have enjoyed the foray into the fantasy of the World of the Marketplace as well as following the well developed characters and interwoven intrigues of people of power.

What does Elizabeth Jasicki bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She made the characters, and by extension, the world, seem more real.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I Laughed, I moaned, I flew, I crashed, I felt, I sympathized, I sighed (long, deep sighs), I was awed, I related, I detached, I loved, I hated, I screamed (this at the ending!). The full gamut of emotions are represented and drawn out for the 'emotional masochist' to revel in!!

    Any additional comments?

The best in the series - and the one that absolutely has me panting for the next book!!
There is going to be a next book...right????

    "Be Prepared to feel everything"
Where does The Inheritor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top ten books, however I've been awaiting this installment in the series for years. It did not disappoint.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Chris. He is the epitome of service and grace under fire, even when he wants to kick someone right in the teeth.

Which character – as performed by Elizabeth Jasicki – was your favorite?

She did pretty well with all of them. I'd have to say she handled Chris rather well.

    Any additional comments?

The book is a wonderful, tragic, glorious tale that left me waving my arms, shedding tears, yelling aloud, nodding firmly and frequently fanning myself ~sizzle sizzle~. Laura has outdone herself in this latest book. I won't spoil a thing with any details. Read it or listen to it, but do be sure to have read the previous 5 first. Many of the characters come back and you will need a working knowledge of who they are to truly enjoy this latest installment in the Marketplace saga.

"I really liked this and the series as a whole over"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend this, and the series because the world and characters are so good. I wasn't a huge fan of the first book, as I found quite a few of the characters shallow and not believable. However, she must have thought the same due to the fact she only continued with the ones that were good in the rest of the books.

What did you like best about this story?

The fact that two characters are separated for years and yet seem to be constantly connected by an unlikely ... love? I also love the concept of a shadow world of slavery she has created here. There is sex of course of a BDSM nature, or S/M play, but the book is deeper than that, as you'd expect due to the staggering length of all of her books.

Some might say the books are too long and could have used some editing down, but honestly I like the depth she goes into and the detail. In a book market where books all seem to be getting shorter I'm glad to get my teeth into a good long listen.

Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Jasicki’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, and I find her narration very easy on the ear. She sets a scene well, and voices her characters well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Chris's choice is the easy answer here. Horrible position he is put in to choose a life he loves or a life of duty, knowing that if he choose the life he loves it will cost a huge price to his training line. I thought the choice was going to be obvious given how many books we have got to know Chris over, but she could have surprised me, maybe she did. You'll have to read to find out!

I also loved the ending. The position Chris is put into by his ... well, niece I guess you would call her, is a horrible spot to be in. I won't ruin what it is that happens, but she basically turns up at his home and drops a whole heap of trouble into his lap. Can't wait to see how that plays out in the next book.
