Publisher's summary

Passion knows no status or wealth....

"True, I am but a mere maidservant from a great house, snatched from a wretched existence of poverty and desperation to serve noblemen of wealth and privilege.

"And yet....

"While I am indeed of lowly rank, I am also a young woman who allowed herself to sample life's greatest pleasures in the hands of these titled men. My tales overflow in this journal, penning my journey to becoming a woman of power of the most base, yet stimulating, breed.

"Unmarried and 20, yet betrothed to no man, I would be considered a spinster by most, yet this is of my own ardent intention. With my unabashed lushness and wisdom regarding a man's most vehement cravings, I am not lacking for suitors or proposals given in the heat of passion. No, I have yet to meet the man who will challenge me, satisfy me in all ways, not only of the flesh.

"For where passion and desire are fleeting, my heart continues to beat...."

Anais Nin would be proud. NC-17 for sure.

I had reservations about buying this novel. Ashford Mcnab is a favorite narrator of mine. She was the reason I gave this book a fighting chance. And I'm so glad I did. It turned out to be a rare treat. But buyer beware:
The Diary of Cozette isn't a sweet diary of a girl in love, although Cozette does have a first love. Instead, this is the diary of a girl surviving her circumstances, growing into womanhood, and shirking the restraints put upon women of that time.

Let me be plain: this is a novel that includes sexual experiences both good and bad. It is not pornography by any stretch of the imagination. However, it is gritty and I blushed through much of the story. Sensitive readers please don't purchase this.

The story of Cozette is captivating, and I was quite taken with the novel. Rarely have I "read" an author with such fine skills for maintaining the dignity, charm and integrity of her story while walking the line of the erotic. There was a rare honesty in this story that few novels of any genre have. Without the obvious plot devices and expected structure, I was swept into this story as though Cozette was in fact a real woman. I believe that this is not for everyone. It will offend some readers. This isn't a sweet tale that allows for the escape of reality and tidy happily ever after. But it is a thought-provoking journey, both good and bad, of a very interesting woman.

Boooooooooring....

Totally misses the mark. Not erotic, well-written or interesting. The combination of a boring story and an annoying narrator caused me to stop listening before it was over.

Naughty and Utterly Charming

Unlike most typical "romance" stories, this book-The Diary of Cozette-is utterly charming. While the unbridled sexual scenes left me blushing, the author's writing style is so good, so 19th-century like, that I felt like I was listening to Dickens or Austen sometimes. The story-itself is quite good and made even better by the narrator - Ashford McNab.

A thrill to listen to...

This book was sensual, steamy and still maintained an intelligent story throughout. Not once did the writer misstep with her characters and make the listener feel the story was unlikely or awkward. The exquisite sexual tension was ever present and led to passionate, explosive releases throughout the entire story. The fact that the author allowed the lead character to taste many sexual partners prior to finally finding her true 'love' helped us learn more of her sexual desires. Therefore, when she finally met her match, it felt a relief and filled the listener with great satisfaction!
The narrator was fabulous! This leant to the overall desire to continue listening hour after hour. Her intonation was excellent and only improved during the passionate scenes. Very well done!

Dear Ashford MacNab, you deserve better.

What could Amanda McIntyre have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It almost seems as if this book was written by someone who is not a native speaker. Many times a word that is close to the intended meaning, but not quite right. It was very jarring.

Which character – as performed by Ashford MacNab – was your favorite?

I got this book because of this narrator. I wish she did more than romance novels!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was frequently confused by the disjointed narrative. Many times the characters were in different places or doing different things than they had been mere moments before. I know that plot is not generally paramount in this genre, but it happened even in the sections which are generally paramount in this genre.

Any additional comments?

Even the dulcet tones of Ms. MacNab can't save this one. Skip it.
